Weird NHL 13 glitch

Every time I play the Be A GM mode, no players retires after the first season. It didn't to that when I first got the game, but it happens every time now. After the second season it works as normal.

Searched google and I haven't been able to find anyone else describing the same issue.

Anyone else familiar with this glitch? Did you find any way around it? Thanks.
