I'm only just now realizing they would have been DEAD LAST in the waiver line, so had they not put in a claim he would've cleared.

So they DEFINITELY did it out of spite.

I don't think it is out of spite... Florida themselves don't have a 3. With how good Bob has been playing, Knight isn't getting a ton of games. They'll use JoJo to sit on the bench and get Knight some games in the AHL.
