If the Vikings get to 7-5 with that schedule, then they’re back to square 1- not good enough to make a SB run, but not bad enough to get one of the top draft picks

Khalil Mack can come back to the Raiders if he wants, just has to say sorry to Jon Gruden for shafting him and it’ll be all roses and daises for Mack.

Gruden can control the media as well, come on down Khalil!

Trent Dilfer playoff run:

9-14 130 yards
5-16 117 yards
9-18 190 yards
12-25 153 yards

In today's NFL you could have any defense and you wouldn't win with that. The average level of QB and WR play is higher.

It isn't only the QB that's wrong with the Bears. They don't have a good offensive line, they have an average running back, and their WR group is pretty average. Teams know that and simply cover Robinson instead. They have a bad coach and a bad GM who can't draft players. It's very hard to win with a team like that.

the NFL has become too obsessed with offense. Basically great defensive teams like the Bears are at a disadvantage with all these rules

You say this like the Bears didn't do this to themselves.

The Bears highest cap charges on offense are

Allen Robinson: 15,000,000
Charles Leno Jr.: 10,300,000
Mitch Trubisky: 9,237,593
Bobby Massie: 8,300,000
Nick Foles: 6,666,666
Jimmy Graham: 6,000,000
Cordarrelle Patterson: 5,250,000
Tarik Cohen: 3,041,289

They don't have a single other offensive player making more than 2 million dollars. It looks like in the NFL you get what you pay for. They pay a lot more for their defense at the cost of not being able to find a second guy who can catch the ball. Those are the breaks. Their GM built the team like an idiot.

The Bears defense can be good enough with a couple tweaks, but if they’re going to gut their braintrust it’ll be tough to keep that group together even if their issues are primarily on the offense.

Elite Defences do not like due to the salary cap. Players come off rookie contracts and get paid. If the bar for a big contract is around $8 million per on the cap hit, then teams can only afford between 8-10 players making that kind of money depending on what their QB makes.

$16 mill for your QB is on the very low end. Even the Raiders who have Carr and Mariotta are spending like $33 million or something on them.

Salary cap is $198 million. On a 53 man roster, your top end guys will make $125 million - $140 million of the cap. You'll likely have guys on rookie contracts and undrafted FA who account for around 20 roster spots making under $1 mill each. That gives you a roster of around 30 players. So, you need to fill out the remaining 23 guys, your K and P, and LS, plus 20 others who are veterans who make up the rest of the salary cap.

Peyton Manning 2015:

21-37 222 yards
17-32 176 yards, 2 TD, 1 fumble lost
13-23 141 yards, 1 INT, 1 fumble lost

It's still possible for a dominant defense to carry a team to a ring even today

For a season. But not consistently over a period of 3-4 years.

seen the legion of boom in Seattle fade away after their DL got old and moved on. Then their secondary the team opted not to pay for a third contract after They paid Kam and he got hurt. Denver’s no fly zone D didn’t last much after Manning retired. Sacksonville lasted a season due to borates being bad. Bears they could not carry trubisky last season. Playing very well again this year.

just simply not enough cap space to keep an elite D for long.
Typically when guys come off their second contracts teams let these guys walk and sign their guys coming off rookie deals.

Pace's horrid drafting really hurts here as team has nothing resembling young talent or depth on offense outside of Mooney at WR and Kmet at TE (Though our coach doesn't seem to be fan)

A damning indictment of both Pace and Nagy is the OL

Nagy brought in his guy to coach them and its been major issue while Pace was happy with guys he had when everyone said Bears needed major OL help

What your left with is the debacle we have on line and worst running game in NFL and maybe the worst pass protection in NFL as well

Options were what for Chicago?

Is Newton much better as a passer? They would be a run heavy team with him.

Sign Bridgewatwr? Turnover machine Winston. Mariota?

Could have had Teddy for 15 to 17 million instead of trading for that eyesore of a deal Foles initially signed with the Jags.

Teddy has also looked really good for the Panthers.

You bring Jim McMahon back out of retirement so they can get back to being Da Bears.

Actually they should be starting Meyers at QB as he throws better than Cam. Heck maybe they should be running the Wishbone with Cam as a running back.

This kind of got glossed over, but the Patriots are in a position to come up with a 2-QB formation where you don't know which of them is a passer, runner, or receiver on a given play.

It's something to think about.
