I do think it's time to try someone other than Alfie, he's 0-for. No harm in trying someone else at this point.
Silfverberg was until tonight, he shot a little bit lower than usual.
Linus Omark, anyone?
The shootout has now been in place since 2005. Is there any player in that time who has been marketed or profiled as a "shootout specialist"? Didn't think so. Even Kovalev, that lazy $%^$, has never been sold that way, and he is the ultimate one dimensional player who might have qualified. (The one guy I thought who might have been lights out in a shootout, Pavel Bure, had to retire after the lockout.)
The shootout is the ultimate crapshoot, with the Habs' game being the best example. We won it on a goal from a guy who has been healthy scratch (The Dog Man) who lost control of the puck, and managed to wrong-foot Carey Price in the process. It was one of the flukiest goals you'll see in a while, and it got us an extra point. The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away...
Um.
Daugavins' whiff occurred against Lundqvist and the Rangers.
Price was beat by Silf's shot and Regin's photogenic undressing.
We had a shootout specialist in Silf. Because he used the same move again and got stopped doesnt change that.
Spezza is pretty good in the shootout as well.
Non issue
Giving up 2 goals in a shootout doesn't generally end well. Lehner was off, it happens.
He had nabby if he got it higher. He missed is all
How 'bout instead of bringing in washed-up talent solely to use them in the shootout, we focus on winning games before we get to the shootout?
Spezza's hurt for another 2 months max (probably less). You're saying that we should acquire a "shootout specialist" JUST for the month or so until Spezza comes back?
Spezza, Silfverberg, Turris, Zibanejad, Michalek, etc.
We don't need a shootout specialist. We need players capable of playing well during the actual game.
Matt Hendricks, if anyone.
By the time Spez returns in 2 months, there will have played many close games, likely a few decided by shoot-out. I'm just sayin, perhaps BM can make a deal right now (at reasonable cost) to get a service-able player who can dangle -- maybe Swede Paajarvi from Edmonton, or bring back Patrick O'Sullivan for cheap from Helsinki. Check out their You-Tube high-lights:

Nah, we don't need a shootout specialist. That's a too narrow definition.
We need a scoring specialist.
