Well, he's not wrong. The Oilers managed 8 shots over the final two periods. A meltdown is more like what the Preds did in Game 4 where they blew it in overtime after largely controlling play throughout the game. The Canucks outplayed the Oilers for basically the last two periods. I guess if a team can "meltdown" over 2/3rds of the game, but that's usually just called getting outplayed.

FWIW the Canucks also badly outplayed the Oilers in the first too.

Canucks were 51.6% CF, 54.1% FF, 69.2% SC, 71.4% HDC, and 71.1% xGF in the first period

Very eager for game 2. Have no idea how it will play out at all.

Will Drai play? Is he okay or injured? How does Skinner play? Can the Canucks 3rd line continue to be the difference maker? Will the Nurse/Ceci pairing be iced again? Will EP show up? How does Silovs look as the series progresses? Does the Oilers PP take over? Are they forced to play 5 vs 5 more as things tighten up? Will Henrique be back?

So many small details. Really fun series to watch tbh. Good hockey, lots of drama and the stakes are so high for both franchises.

Oilers game 1 report card:

Special Teams: 10/10 (perfect PP & PK)

Offence 5/10 (4 goals is good but need to muster more than 18 shots on a 3rd string goalie)

Goaltending 5/10 (1 bad goal against, can’t fault him for the Miller tip and Zadorov seeing puck bomb, high skilled move by Garland maybe could’ve had that, stopped a breakaway and a few grade A scoring chances. The Oilers goaltending was better than the Canucks in game 1 as the Oilers got 4 goals while only registering 1 high danger scoring chance)

Defence 4/10 (blew a 4-1 lead, got to defend a lot better against the highly skilled Canucks, this isn’t the Kings offence they’re playing against, have to be way more aware)

Neither of them are NHL caliber defencemen though.
Nurse is despite his stupid contract. He's just a very volatile player so there's games where he really struggles like yesterday and others when he plays like he's on the first pairing.

I'll agree with you that Ceci has entered AHL territory this year.

He's actually not lying. I know a ticket broker and he took a bath at last nights game. I met him for a beer at the 2nd period intermission and he told me that it wasn't even sold out as well as the fact he sold tickets last minute under what he paid

Prices, being Wednesday, Pearl Jam concerts a lot of people thinking were gonna lose and mostly the last minute scheduling left some empty seats. Friday night will be packed to the gills
Technically weren't all the tickets sold? Hence a sell-out? If secondary sellers don't get their price the seats go unused but they are still paid for, or am I missing something?

As a neutral fan, i enjoyed the hell outta this game. A personal favourite in Zadorov looked great, even chipped in some offense and JT Miller was a pleasant surprise.

Dissappointed in McDavid but he'll come back in G2 im guessing.

Loved the physicality and the mutual lack of goaltending was a bit hilarious when the outcome didn't matter much.

Every time Drai is on the ice the Canucks have to initiate clean contact. Want him hesitating, shying away from contact and double thinking every rush. Every shift but nothing dirty.

I wont pretend to be an expert on the Oilers but that was a weird game. Was there and it was electric.

On ice thought both teams were off. Some of the key players looked like they were tentative as they adjusted to different systems and perhaps a little flat after emotional first rounds and of course the bodies being banged up. Fully expect that to change starting friday.

Draisaitl looked like the best player and it wasn't close until he got hurt. With McDavid having a pedestrian night the Canuck spine down the middle took control of the game as they grabbed the momentum. Nurse and Ceci were problematic and really other than Hyman and Mcloed the Oilers looked a bit sluggish and flat

Was shocked to see the Oilers 3rd line pushing all 3 forwards up ice at 4-1 and at one point even a defenseman had joined a 3 on 2 trying to make it a 4 on2 when up by 3 goals. That is not the kind of discipline that will end well and it proved to be a sign of things to come. And sure Skinner stunk but with smart management the Oilers should have been able to at least look like they know how to close a game out. Thought that was really weird but perhaps the players were thinking it was gonna be stats night after having such easy scoring success for 30minutes.

For Van Miller was having an off night and Hughes i also thought wasn't quite himself. Ian Cole and Myers were train wrecks. Pettersson was looking much better his line mates are playing their ways out of town. Both are useless beyond effort. Mikhayev is insanely frustrating because with his speed and size should at least be a physical beast yet he refuses to hit anyone or initiate on the forecheck. Just a puck watching chest hitting checker. 1 goal in like 60 games what a joke he is in his role

Both goalies were weak so it's really not worth hanging a hat on other than to say they need to be better for either team to go anywhere. Quite honestly we match up well against the Oilers. Really sucks not having Demko as he should be our MVP at this stage. Winning game 1 in comeback fashion and having Miller and Hughes off is a massive shot in the arm for Vancouver. Gonna be a fun series
You know that gif with the guy walking with his GF but looking back at a hotter girl? That must be how EP feels about Lindholm and his wingers.

Mikheyev just doesn't have any offensive touch anymore and Hogz IMO is in over his head and even when he was scoring they didn't exactly have chemistry.
With Abby eliminated , I'd like to see Podz get a shot with him or even Linus.

EP and Brock have always been good together but there's no way you breakup the top line.

OILERS FANS:

Whats the likelyhood that Knob would drop RNH down to 3 C to match up against Lindolms line? Thinking it could tip the ice back in Edmonton's way when the Canucks 3rd line us out 5 vs 5.

With Henrique injured it would put a superior C on the 3rd line and move McLeod up to the 2nd line w Drai

Edit:

With Drai out it could be:

McD
RNH
Gagner down the middle?
