Ten years ago... a young man named Shea embarked on his maiden voyage to the NHL playoffs. The savvy youth was a perfect fit with the talented crew he had joined and became a full fledged shipmate in no time. This was high praise indeed for his mates included the likes of Kariya, Dumont, Sullivan, Timonen and Surly Suter.

While the crew was indeed a talented bunch, it was nothing without their captain at the helm. Vokoun was his name, and his quick reflexes were the envy of all. He was the glue that held the crew together.

The voyage looked promising, the skies all clear. The team had achieved greatness compiling more than 50 wins in a year. Their mandate was to go deep sea fishing and land the biggest catch of the day: the three sharks from San Jose. This will be easy everyone thought as they sailed into shark infested waters.

But in the water lurked a monster they all should've feared.

Out from the depths came a trio of beasts... Thornton, Marleau and Cheechoo circled the SS Pred hungry for a bite of flesh.

The brave captain tried his beast, but the sharks were relentless. The crew all bailed as the ship sunk into the abyss. They frantically grabbed on to whatever they could find to keep them above water.

The tides came and went, separating the once unified group. Vokoun, Timonen and Hartnell were the first victims, followed swiftly by lesser members of the team (especially ones named Suter and Radulov).

One, however, remained loyal to the cause. The youngster Shea survived the disaster and pledged to himself he would have his revenge. He swam back to shore and patiently waited. He spent nearly a decade training and recruiting a crew worthy to take down the shark that had destroyed his young dreams.

The SS Pred was reborn, a sea worthy vessel that was now battle tested. It wasn't always an easy ride, but the crew made it to the shark invested waters.

Now an older man, Shea is the captain of his team, ready to take on the shark in the sea.

Excellent write up Yoshi; keep using that ghetto Perds logo! And I was kind of wtf-ing at Jonesey's hydraulic press video until the very last thing they crush  More of this!

And I am sticking with this video for the rest of the playoffs; worked in Game 7. Go Perds!

EDIT: Almost forgot an LOTR GIF; would have been catastrophic. Onwards Nashville Predahirrim!

So that's it, eh? Punch the bully out in his own home, the bully many expected to be the sacrificial lamb to WSH for the cup, and we get - meh? How unimpressive it was that Corey the Dancer ended up -7 with 0G - he just didn't show up. Or how the invincible virtually unbeatable 20-1 since Dec Frederick the Great got beat back-to-back, with the winner from the 4th line C - fluky that was. At least some credit to Peks for standing tall - although he won't be able to do it again, the SJS are so much more talented, bigger and stronger than the Ducks, and they want it.

WTF? No chance. None. That team in Nashville, a nice little team, throws a nice party, but everyone knows that even if the 15 beats the 2, it's over in the next round. F*** the haters, the doubters. Bring the physical. Limit the space. Clear that damn crease and let Peks carry us forward. Control the puck. Look for the counter-attack and pounce - quick and efficient, like a cat. Play with Fisher intensity, angry-Shea edge, and Goose tenacity. Go Perds!

Win.

Win it for Vokoun.
Win it because the Nashville Predators outlasted the purge and heartbreak of 2007.
Win it because of Del Biaggio or however it was spelled--snake in the grass.
Win it for yourselves because you earned this round.

Go Preds!

There might be cake.

Planning to watch the first period and then force myself to go to bed so I don't have a miserable experience at the marathon tomorrow. Let's go boys, get it done!

4 Pacific Championships and a record of 208-104-40 isn't bad. Losing 4 game 7's was the killer

And it wasn't his fault. His team failed him time and time again. This is the one thing I hate about sports, players don't show up and the coach gets the axe. Like what could Bruce have done differently?
