Big Game Story: WCSF’s / PDF’s Round 2 Game #1, BATTLE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. Southern California's two NHL franchises will meet for the first time in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Ducks have been in the NHL since 1993; the Kings entered the League in 1967. The Anaheim Ducks won four of five games against the Los Angeles Kings this season. Two of the games were decided by one goal; two others went to a shootout, including the Kings' win. The only game that wasn't a one-goal final was the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game at Dodgers Stadium, which Anaheim won 3-0. A big reason for Anaheim's success against Los Angeles this season was goaltending. Now the Ducks' goaltending situation may be the biggest question mark for either team as this Western Conference Second Round series commences. Los Angeles has the second-longest winning streak in the League after sweeping the final four games to defeat the San Jose Sharks in seven in a Western Conference First Round series. The Kings outscored the Sharks 18-5 in the final four games of the series and held San Jose's top five forwards to a combined one goal and three points after the Sharks had taken a 3-0 series lead. Goaltender Jonathan Quick had a .963 save percentage to help lead the turnaround. The KINGS need to remind DUCKS, KINGS FANS and THEMSELVES which team won a Stanley Cup Championship in 2012. GO KINGS GO !!!

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

Just looking at that old Disney "Mighty" Ducks patch on their shoulder makes me angry.

Good thing where I'm from it's duck hunting season in May! And I legitimately went shooting yesterday. Hoping I'm a good omen here haha.

It's always fun to see what other fanbases do with their GDTs -- the Sharks had a good thing going with the Microsoft Paint motif -- so hey, I wonder what Ducks' fans are up to?

Ducks GDT.

Minimalism is a little played, I think, but including Atlantic Time for the face-off is a nice touch.

(Yeh. Puck U spoils us his terrific GDTs.)

That's pretty complex by our standards. Why put tons of effort into something people will glance over for 5 seconds anyway?

We don't care!

@Real_ESPNLeBrun 2m
Boudreau won't say who is starting in goal tonight. Wants to keep LA guessing. Hiller skipped optional this morning while Andersen took it

The Kings were much better in Games 4-7 at not fumbling the puck at the blueline or immediately upon entry (looking at you, Mike Richards).

The analysis is not wrong. SJ just doesn't have the same horses as Chicago, nor the brains behind the bench to adjust.

The Kings haven't looked dangerous against the Ducks at all this season. Boudreau may actually be the one with the gravy-stained book on the Kings. Let's hope not.

The point is I haven't seen this team play two worse games over the last couple years than Game 1 and 2.

And I'd argue the outdoor game was the Kings poorest showing of the season. "Expect a trade sooner than later..."

Agreed but I have a few thoughts of that.

1. They played us a few times in our worst slumps of the year, so meh.

2. At least a couple of the games we flat out dominated the puck time and just did nothing with it.

3. The Ducks would take a lead then play, literally, a passive version of the 90s Devils trap and when we did get the puck in the zone, they'd hardly chase our cyccle and would just sit in the slot.

My thoughts on all three are that many Ducks (and some Kings) fans think we're going to be the passive mid-season team that stayed to the outside. I think this team is hungrier than that and even if they keep the initial shots to the outside we're going to be crashing hard. The speed upgrade with Pearson and Gaborik is going to help a lot with their midgets and we've learned our lesson in round 1, a valuable asskicking that we needed, about turning the puck over and letting them play pond hockey, no pun intended.

especially if we can get to their goalie, whoever it is, early and often, it's gonna make a fine mess of things for the Ducks. And I don't mean that to cheapen them as an opponent, they are sure dangerous and no lead is safe, but they have goaltending issues worse than SJ that we can potentially exploit.
