That's a bold assumption thinking the league actually wants to protect it's own players.

Those hits are the prototypical concussion hits as well (not due to head contact, but from sudden abrupt momentum loss). Studies indicate more concussions occur from hits through the body than ones contacting the head because of the sheer amount of G-force in being hit through the body rocking the brain.
