Incredibly, there are only two instances of a player tallying more than 5 assists in a playoff game. The players in question have initials W.G. and M.L. Guess the two players.

If you guessed Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux... you'd be half correct.

The actual answer is Wayne Gretzky and Mikko Leinonen.

The real shocker here is that it isn't another one of those stats where it's only been done by two players. Once by Lemieux and 29 times by Gretzky.

Ok, I know studies suggest face-offs are not meaningful.

But I want a repeat of Monday's 55.6% face-off win rate against a team that rolls out Kopitar and Danault. Control the dot and control the puck possession. Oil 3 for 4 PP was assisted with strong face-off win results led by Draisaitl's redonculous 62.5% (and McDavid's 53.8%).

What kind of idiot thinks winning faceoffs isn't meaningful?

It was becoming a generalized belief within some advanced stats circles. However situational face-off considerations have been looked with more context than a binary win-lose outcome. Winning Isn’t Everything – A contextual analysis of hockey face-offs

Point remains let's beat them handily again right from the puck drop. Feed the puck possession that drives Oil success.
Yup puck possession is a big part of Edmonton's defensive success. They aren't a team that can play turtle defence like Nashville. Their ability to defend in their own zone has improved, but their real strength comes from their puck possession time and back checks in the neutral zone. They have a lot of good players who are good at disrupting and stripping guys on the back check. McLeod is one of the best on the team at that.
