I do this for fun. But I remember the skill level of the rep teams that were older than I in Alberta in the 80s. And then I remember the rep team I played for in BC as a bantam.
It just really truly seems like the skill was higher then.
Very few stand out in the peewee and over groups that I watch for fun. Even at rhe Bantam level (AAA), very few seem to be able ti hammer a slapshot like most of us could at that age. There are very few excellent skaters. The passing isn't very crisp.
I always try to weigh what I see against rose-colored glasses of the past. Again though, I remember there always being 5 or 6 super talented kids that could play pro when I was a kid. Their skill level was ridiculous. My skill level was high.
I must be wrong.
