Arbitration
Arbitration rights (eligibility for player-elected arbitration) are determined based on the number of pro years and the players age upon signing their first contract.

Age upon signing first SPC||Required years to gain arb. rights
18-20||4 years
21||3 years
22-23||2 years
24+||1 year

It's important to note that the player's age when signing isn't their age when they actually sign the contract but their age on September 15th of the year in which the contract is signed. Pro in this instance means either the NHL or AHL, except for 18-19yo's in the AHL. Based on the CBA's wording, 18-19yo's must be in the NHL (and play 11 or more games) to be considered pro. "A Player aged 20 or older (or who turns 20 between September 16 and December 31 of the calendar year in which he signs his first SPC) earns a year of professional experience by playing ten (10) or more Professional Games under an SPC in a given season." For more on arbitration consult Article 12 of the CBA.

The arbitration hearing award walk-away point for summer 2014 is $3,500,000.

RFA Offer Sheet Compensation Information for 2014

$1,110,249 or below - No Compensation

Over $1,110,249 to $1,682,194 - 3rd round pick

Over $1,682,194 to $3,364,391 - 2nd round pick

Over $3,364,391 to $5,046,585 - 1st round pick, 3rd

Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 - 1st round pick, 2nd, 3rd

Over $6,728,781 To $8,410,976 - Two 1st round Picks, 2nd, 3rd

Over $8,410,976 - Four 1st Round Picks

Note, these are the same compensation $/picks as last two seasons. Per 10.4 in the CBA, the next time this will change is after the 2014-15 season. It is "based on the average annual value of the compensation contained in the Principal Terms (as defined in Section 10.3(e) hereof) of the New Club's Offer Sheet (determined by dividing such compensation by the lesser of the number of years of the Offer Sheet or five)"

Also, confirmed in the NHL release listing the free agents by team and group and including the offer sheet figures.

Arbitration Information

I posted yesterday stating I believed Schilling and Pasquale have arbitration rights and was going to review. Actually in process of reviewing this now and I think all three have arbitration rights. Of course, if they do, they are limited in terms of player's leverage in these three cases.

- Schilling, Oct 7 1988, contract for 2012-13 and 2013-14, announced in March 2012; considered 23yo for signing purposes
- Schmidt, Jul 16 1991, contract for 2012-13 and 2013-14, announced in April 2013; considered 22yo for signing purposes (Schmidt played 13 regular and playoff games for Hershey in 2012-13)
- Pasquale, Nov 20 1990, contract with Atlanta signed in May 2010 for 2010-11, 11-12,12-13; one year contract for 2013 season; so 4 years pro, see the turning 20yo between signing and end of year language below; anyway, 4 years, so eligible.

No Caps players filed for arbitration. Not surprised.

Not sure where you got that information from, he was extended a QO and is an RFA, as noted above. His QO is still outstanding.

Players extended QOs: Latta (since re-signed), Schilling, Schmidt & Pasquale

Players not extended and became UFAs: Deschamps, Flemming, LeBlanc. For NHL-wide information about player's status, the NHL release listing the free agents by team I linked to above is a good resource.
