think its been discussed before. but the search function doesn't work for me.

With the Gretzky trade.

Was there a limit in $$$ Pocklington could ask for.

If there was a limit, how was that capped number determined? was it just an arbitrary value, or like the salary cap currently where the number does change season by season

In the late 90's, for some reason the number $5 million sticks in my mind. But I have nothing to back that up with, just a fading memory I had from being a fan of a soon-to-be cash-strapped team (Pittsburgh).

I don't know if there was a limit, but Gretzky went for $15 million, and I believe Lindros went for $15 million. So if there was a number, that was it.
