Now, I think this could go a long way in building a 1st line. You might be thinking: but we'd trade a 20 year old for an 18 year old, wouldn't that put us back? but hear me out. Boeser is a much better offensive prospect than Virtanen and they bought play RW. So, why not trade Virtanen to draft other 1st line positions?

Tkachuk and Dubois are both natural wingers but Dubois can win play C. At 10th you can expect either center Tyson Jost or Clayton Keller to be available. Both impressed at the U-18s and Keller in particular had 107 points in 62 US National U-18 team games.

We could have a much more complete 1st line if this trade happened.

Edit: Basically would you rather have Clayton Keller/Tyson Jost or Jake Virtanen? For reference on how good Keller is:

Eichel: 87 points in 53 games USDP
Keller: 107 points in 62 games USDP

Jost: 104 points in 48 games (15 points in 7 WJC18 games)
Turris: 121 points in 53 games (6 points in 5 WJC18 games)

And then watch him break out in next two years? No thanks.
There's no guarantee with prospects. Keller and Jost are closer to become B6 players than T6

Was never a fan of the Virtanen pick. I would easily trade him for Jost or Keller if they were available.

Yeah but I'd draft a Dman instead. Chychrun, Sergachev or Juolevi Never was a fan of the pick and Virtanen has done nothing to change my mind since being drafted. Doubt he's even worth a top 15 pick.

sometimes its so embarrassing being a Canuck fan, there too many shortsightedness here. We had a Bertuzzi, we were patient, we were rewarded, ppl with Virtanen's rare combination of skillset deserves a much longer look. Yes I would maybe draft Nylander in hindsight, but he's worth much more than Ehlers or Fleury or Ritchie still.
