We'll see. I thought the problem with his game this year was actually less D and almost no offence. He wasn't getting to open areas for shots. The guy just wasn't skating and seemed endlessly worried about making a big play, which made him useless. I don't see why he can't play 12 to 15 minutes a game somewhere and be a PP specialist.

There is so little battle in his game that he rarely wins pucks. That means the rest of the line has to transition the puck and win it if it's contested AND get it to him in a scoring area. When he had his hot January in '22-23, part of it was Mitts doing a lot of the lifting in both directions.

This year, the lack of quickness to get to openings and the lack of battle just left him with no open ice. It was like the worst parts of the last days of Jason Pominville.
