That's such an insignificant pick that I don't really care. I'll care about that pick about 2 weeks before the 2020 NHL draft.

Thought you couldn't even trade picks more than 3 years away.

It is 3 years away. It's 4 drafts from now, though.

Not a bad move for LV, 3 years for Pittsburgh to potentially fade from being the best of the league and raise the value of the pick. And although it's a decent amount for Pittsburgh to give up, it's so far in the future that it's easy to plan around.

Sad to see him go. The pick in 2020 doesn't bother me. The Pens window is now and not when that pick may or may not have an impact.

The Penguins aren't going to fade within the next 3 years. The reason I don't think that pick matters is because that player won't be ready for the NHL for a while, when the Penguins window will be closed.

WTF? McPhee is DRUNK. He could have easily gotten more from the pens; it should at least have been a 1st; 2nd rounder to take that contract and make pens life more rosier than it already is?

BS

Is McPhee betting that Pens will start to SUCK by 2020 so that pick will amount to "quality pick" ???

Or maybe you're just wrong, there's a thought.

The Penguins and Knights agreed to this deal in March, it would have likely been even cheaper had this happened after the playoffs.

From GMGM's perspective, a 2nd from this year and the near future has the value of almost a 3rd rounder. Later, when the Pens inevitably suck again, that pick will be closer to a first rounder.

That won't happen in 3 years, though. Unless Crosby and Malkin retire within the next 3 years, along with Murray, Guentzel and every other young player leaves.

This deal was made to ensure that the Penguins didn't somehow get left holding the bag and end up having to expose Murray.
