Are you new to hockey or what? He was scoring at a PPG clip while shutting down the other team's top line. Scoring isn't the only thing that matters but he has been a top two way center for years. You have no right to minimize his accomplishments in 2019.

Previously? Yes. Currently, this year? Staal has stone hands, but he's still a moose on the puck, great at faceoffs, and one of the better forwards defensively in the league

This is impressively 100% wrong.

Jordan Staal is one of the biggest, strongest and most difficult players to play against in the NHL. It is a testament to how physically dominant Staal is that he can put up 40-50 points each year because he may have the worst hands in the league.

He is very above average on most all fronts. Just terrible offensive instincts most of the time.

Functionally what that means for Carolina is that they can put out Staal and Slavin against any line in the league and negate them. McDavid? Gone. Kucherov? Gone. Perfection line? Gone. This is how Carolina beat a very good Boston team in the Playoffs last year.

ROR has been on the decline since the 2019 playoffs. This year he is abysmal. If he's shutting down top lines why is he a -28? CF% and FF% are in the gutter. Staal is the better shutdown center this year by a fair margin. I don't know that ROR would hurt the Canes playoff run, but he won't move the needle compared to their current roster. Vegas can have him.
