No easy:

They had the advantage of seeing where the game was going which allowed them to select a team full of great skaters in the expansion draft.
They have the advantage of not having a single bad contract on their roster and probably won't for at least a few years.
They have cap space and will be a top destination for free agents.
They should be able to re-sign both Karlsson and Neal and still have flexibility in free agency.
The ridiculous rules for the expansion draft allowed them to manipulate the system and draft 3 players in the top 15 in last years draft.
They have the best goalie in the game.

This team is your likely Cup winner and they aren't going anywhere. If they aren't a top 2 team in their division and a force next year it would be a shock. This team easily has the potential to win multiple cups of the next few years.

How did they have an advantage of seeing where the game was going? What is the definition of an advantage for you? Do general managers from other teams not have eyes? Every team prior to this year was seeing the same thing, the same players, the same trends. This is just Vegas being brilliant in picking their players. They didn't have an advantage at all, they selected from a pool of players that teams didn't protect for whatever reason they did and everyone thought this wasn't a playoff team. Vegas didn't know more than any other team, some teams made stupid decisions but Vegas didn't have an advantage at all.

Fleury wasn't even considered close to being one of the best goalies in the league, he didn't even play in the finals for the last two cuo runs of Pittsburgh. Most people were saying that his stats were a result of the team in front of him. Not only that, but any team could've traded for Fleury before the expansion draft... Not a single team did though.

They do have bad contracts.... Clarkson, Stoner, Emelin (traded), Grabovski, Garrisson....

Right now just the 4 mentionned above without Emelin take about 18M in cap space and are not even playing. Now please explain how these are good contracts.

There is no way... Absolutely no way anyone could've predicted them being contenders.
