Well according to The Economist, Vancouver is the most expensive city in North America:

"The report ranks cities based on the cost of 160 products and services, such as gas, food, rent and transportation."

So to answer your question: You pay a lot for rent.

But why not just look at some ad listings if you're curious about the exact amount?

Yeah, I thought so. I am considering moving further east. My work is in the fairview area though so it would be nice to be close by. Somethings I need to be there on a moments notice. Some days I work from home.

Relying on transit might make that kind of iffy (or maybe I'm too biased against it?). Weekdays aren't bad...but W/E or stats.....scheduling ain't so good.

Renting out a couple of suites in Surrey (near City Centre SkyTrain).

Newish suites, $1,700 each for 750 sq.ft.

Last I rented in VAN (4 years ago) had a 900 sq.ft. place on Marinaside and Davie for $1,950 per month. Always went on Prompton and lowballed rent (asking was $2,400 a month when I got it).
