Can't really say without knowing what lead up to it. Kicking is obviously wrong but the guy who was kicked appeared to be trying to fight a guy in friggin rec hockey game. Anyone who tries to fight in rec hockey probably deserves whatever they get. That being said maybe the realtor did something to deserve being attacked. There's no way the RCMP should be getting involved with this.

Without knowing what transpired before the video begins, it's impossible to pass judgment on the kick

Did the realtor initiate the physical altercation? Was it mutual combat? Or was the realtor the victim of an on-ice assault?

Frankly, when you physically attack someone, you've just given your victim permission to use whatever means necessary to defend/retaliate against your assault - and that includes kicking you in the face with a skate blade

Full video..

-Looks like a little scrum/tie up between two other players happens at first.
-Then kick guy comes in as 3rd man
-Another guy ties up kick guy
-Kick guy escalates, falls on top of other guy
-Other guy gets on top of im and then straddles him and punches him before getting kicked.

I don't feel super comfortable making excuses for this guy, but one thing we cannot tell is whether he realized the other guy's face was right there. The ref is blocking our view of his head, so we don't know what he was seeing.

Obviously it's never OK to kick someone, but there's a big difference between deliberately kicking a dude right in the face, versus kicking blindly when someone's pinning your leg down during a fight. The former is psychotic and criminal, the latter is a potentially dangerous thing that a normal person might do in the heat of the moment.

Also not a huge fan of how this guy has been doxxed and swarmed online. He was already going to be held responsible, both civilly and criminally. At this point it's looking like he's going to be ruined professionally in addition to the legal and personal accountability he already faced. Too many vigilantes out there escalating a situation that isn't their business.

Not cool, glad the kick didn't connect to the throat.

My friends were there. They’re in the Hotshots team and said he wasn’t sorry at all. Had a stupid smirk on his face the entire time after the incident like he showed them whos boss. And he was absolutely trying to kick someone in the face. It wasn’t an accident.

Jesus, not for nothing, but in todays 'day and age' people seem to love and dox and spread information around. Say the wrong thing, or do something and people can find out nearly every single thing about you.

Welp, that makes it a pretty easy situation to judge then.

Ya I dunno -- you put your hands on me I'm probably going to use everything I can to hurt you, including my stick. It's adult league and I have to go to work. I DO NOT take cheap shots or play overtly physical and I don't care about ego.

I'm here basically for some cardio and to be with the boys. NO need to cross any lines or even be near the line in ADULT LEAGUE.

However, if you come after me - at all- I am going to hurt you. Don't cross the line, this isn't the NHL. It looked like the guy in the green who kicked tried to grab his teammate to pull him back (he had a clear cheap shot on the big guy in white and didn't come close to him). The guy ("victim") in the White clearly grabbed the dude who kicked. You got what you deserved. Period.

Dude wasn't doing anything even remotely physical before that.

It's a dirty hockey play that ended up being relatively harmless. No reason to involve the police.
Kicking a guy in the face with a skate on should be a charge and a conviction. Most dirty thing I have even seen in rec hockey, after three decades of playing and two decades of reffing. I would call the police for sure.

Confession time - I've done some regrettable, stupid shit in men's league myself, and been victimized by the same. Many (dare I so most?) of you have too. But this is a weapons-grade level of stupid shit that eventually went supernova.

Don't know how I feel about the cops being involved. Surely there's a line beyond which they should be. Was this it? Maybe, but I am happy it didn't result in a Malarchuk/Zednik situation, because it quite easily could have.

I also don't know what the answer is. We all love hockey, but I think we should acknowledge that it tends to bring testosterone-laden Mr. Hyde behavior to the surface more readily than any other rec-level sport.

Ya, sure, "Don't take it so seriously. There's no scouts in the stands. You've got a job and family." You might as well counsel wolves to not bay at the moon.

I hadn't seen the video that showed the realtor starting it when I posted. Even still tho, I don't think it's worthy of being charged. A lifetime ban from the league and arena seems like punishment enough. Not to mention his professional career being ruined. If he had seriously injured the guy I'd look at it differently.

It doesn't make this incident any better but I've seen videos or heard of slashing/crosscheck incidents worse than this. Never in person but off the top of my head the Jared Aulin incident was worse. Like I said tho, that has no bearing on this incident.

And he should be able to go to jail and pay his debts without having every aspect of his life burned to ashes. This online vigilante stuff is ridiculous.
His whole life isnt being burned. For the next week or two it will be until people move on. But again, why are you feeling bad for the criminal? Guess he should think next time and remember that actions have consequences.

Look at the 5th post in this thread, online randos are swarming his business profiles with negative reviews. We've got hockey-Twitter accounts encouraging interest in the group reaction, which inevitably leads to even more group reaction. As a real estate agent, he'll be radioactive as long as the internet exists. If he's lucky maybe he can move to a different city and start over.

But again, why are you feeling bad for the criminal? Guess he should think next time and remember that actions have consequences.

It's not about feeling bad, it's about objecting to a mob impulse to dial consequences up to 11. The guy is already being properly investigated criminally and will undoubtedly face a lawsuit... those are the actual consequences for what he did. Everything beyond that, the stuff aimed at dunking on him in his private life, is uncalled for.

You’ve seen people take a knife(skate blade) and kick it into the face of someone? You’re a big tough guy I gather, let me guess you would just take that guy out back and give him a pounding huh . You’re def the guy that walks into the locker room and everyone rolls their eyes and wish didn’t show up.

Grow up.
