If Lombardi and Sutter deserved to be fired then Linden and Desjardins both should have been canned and Benning should be driven somewhere without a phone and left to wander around wondering where he is for the rest of his life.

I guess they tanked just enough to get in line for Patrick and now want to fix things.

Now watch Dallas hire him and then win a cup.

In your dreams maybe. The only thing i could possibly see, is that he can light a fire under Dallas from having a coaching change alone. But it's not going to last for long and he's going to get slaughtered in any coach match-up in the playoffs. He shouldn't be a long-term option for any team.

Crazy that the guy that wooped this clowns ass in the playoffs 2 years ago, the guy that won the Jack Adams the very same year, is without an NHL job in 2017. Meanwhile the older, less experienced coach is looking like he's about to get another NHL job, despite showing again and again that he's not good enough nor smart enough to coach at this level.

Imagine being a Dallas fan having hopes of Nichuskin returning. Willie is going to make sure that he doesn't feel welcomed. Watch him throw out his 4th line or a bunch of plugs on the ice with 1 minute remaining of the game while being down by 1 goal.

The difference between Vancouver and Dallas? Dallas has player and organizational depth Vancouver does not.

Vancouver fans throughout the Lower Mainland are under the very false assumption that Vancouver has playoff level talent. THEY. DO. NOT. Accept that. Desjardens did the best he could trying to make chicken salad with chicken crap. No other coach could have done better.

Vancouver is an organizational mess. Gillis didn't replenish the prospect cupboard that Burke emptied during his wheeling and dealing days. Vancouver is now paying the price for what Burke started and Gillis neglected during their tenures.

Old man Desjardin always looked out of touch to me. Even on the first season with the Canucks he looked way over his head. He will never coach in the NHL again.

And they still manage to not even being near enough to making the playoffs. Dallas have a long way to go until they will be able to compete. They're not going to get anywhere with Niemi and Lehtonen, and their defence isn't good enough.

Wtf are you even talking about? The management are constantly trying to sell it to the fans that this team can make the playoffs but the fans DO NOT buy it one bit! Where the **** have you been if you believe that nucks fans ACTUALLY believes that this team is good enough?

You seem to be fairly active on this board, yet you manage to miss that pretty much every nucks-fan on this board wants a rebuild and doesn't think that the team is even close to being good enough. How can anyone possibly miss that, you especially? NO ONE is saying that this team should have made the playoffs. NO ONE ever said that. I predicted a low finish heading into the season, i saw us competing for a top5 pick. That's how high my expectations were. The team being bad on paper and simply not good enough doesn't mean that the coach is immune to critiscism. He's ******* and you haven't made a single point of him actually being a good coach. Have you even seen much of him, or are you just blindly defending him for some unknown reason that i've honestly no idea about?

And hearing you dissing Gillis is just cringeworthy. He sacrificed some future assets in order to make the team competive. In fact he made moves that made the team dominant at the time, with back2back Presidents trophies and a Stanley Cup final appereance which they lost in game 7. Your team has never even been close to being as good as that team.

You seems to think that you can hire some slob off the street as headcoach, and still not being able to put any blame on him because the team is bad. Willie isn't a good coach. And he wouldn't be a good coach even if he was coaching team Canada in the Olympics 3 years ago.

Virtually 0 Canucks fans think there's enough talent to be competitive let alone playoffs bound. Having a bad roster doesn't excuse **** poor coaching.

He literally does not line match. That is so massively inexcusable in the modern game of hockey that I can't even emphasize how horrible he is.

There's no obvious indication that Benning or Linden are in the hot seat. Not yet anyway. If the next season is bad enough there is a real possibility that they clean house next summer. Benning is in one those awkward transitional spots where even if all his picks and trades pan out, he's most likely not going to live to see the results of his success in his role.

Nope, people here realize that this team right now just sucks.

Canucks suck so hard I can't see them attracting a useful coach.

Any coach coming to Vancouver has to do something with the Sedins! This killed the competition last time, the three year interim hasn't improved their performance. In the new coach's early days the team will protect the Sedins in the draft lottery. Much laughter and head shaking will follow. Is this how you want to start an NHL tenure? Some coaches regard credibility as valuable.

Yeah why would they protect their second and third leading scorers who happen to be the captain and alternate captain of the team? It would be much better to protect some random 3rd line grinder.

Also the Canucks are forced to protect them because of the NMC

The canucks have made two stupid moves in recent years 1) Hiring Mike Gillis as GM 2) Firing Desjardens today.

The man had nothing to work with and the team's current state is still the result of when Burke was GM.

Desjardens will be scooped up pretty quickly by a franchise that actually has depth to bottom.

Lmao  just admit you don't know anything about the Canucks man

He has no clue but it doesn't stop him from spouting off a bunch of nonesense on the mainboards about the Canucks.

Gillis is not to blame. They were contending for the cup. You sell your assets to try to win a cup you do it 100% of the time. They missed the playoffs once during Gillis' tenure and it was the season he got fired. The years previous to that they were contenders.
