The Oilers made something out of Kassian when the Canucks scrapped him.

Jack Studnicka is as close to a 50/50 of being claimed or not as you can get. Teams that lack forward depth would be stupid not to take a flyer on him.
How dare you. We didn't "give up" on Kassian, we traded him (and a draft pick!) for a real NHL player in Brandon Prust. Benning assured us he was a hockey player, anyway...

Sharks should claim him. Oilers as well.

He’s an NHLer. Hustles hard and forechecks. Potential to be a 3rd liner.

That's too bad. He really seemed to come to camp busting his ass to earn a spot, and did. But Lafferty especially just sealed his fate as a much better version of him, pretty much exactly across the board.

But he really is more of the sort of..."filler" guy who just doesn't have any particular standout skills. He's not terrible at anything, plays hard, but not really good enough to set himself apart in anything or make himself indispensable either.

So the Oilers putting in a claim would make complete sense. They seem to love staffing their bottom-6 with guys like that. He'd probably even be an upgrade on several spots.

Hate it any time you're losing useful depth though, while trying to shuffle the roster to cover for injuries at a different position or whatever.

If he is claimed, I hope it is with San Jose for his sake. He can probably eke out several more years of 1-way contracts as a bottom 6 forward on a rebuilding team that has not much coming - would at least keep him in the NHL.

He was/is an adequate 4th liner.

Never honestly got a fair shake in Boston! Thought the trade in Vancouver would give him the necessary opportunity!
