The contract matches the development plan as they have laid out - he'll spend some time getting more AHL starts, the if things go as planned there, move up to the big club. They get some short-term real payroll savings, but it looks like next year he's their #2 at least.

Thanks. Wasn't sure if he had rights yet or not as a 99. Wish they could've gotten him to sign a 1 year, but maybe that was the reason for the holdup.
It's pretty standard for a young goalie like UPL to sign for 2 or 3 years for their second contract.
