Unpopular Opinion: The Sharks Should’ve Kept Kiprusoff, Traded Nabokov

I'm not so sure we would have fared super well against that TB team with Hart-winning St Louis, Lecavalier, Richards and Khabibulin. It felt like the 2004 Sharks had the right mix of veterans and young players at the right time but we had nothing close to a star player. Marleau led the way with like 57 points lol. But who knows.

Nabokov was in his prime, and the Sharks had the reverse-Thornton in Vincent Damphousse. They probably still don't win, though.

Yeah true. I feel like Nabokov's goaltending got them through to the CF and then Iginla and Kiprusoff were just too much.

You never know. That was a fun team to watch that year and they exceeded everyone’s expectations after how much of a disaster the 2002-03 season was.

What would you rather of had? Nabokov and Vlasic, or Kipper and an unknown package for Nabby??

Either way, the Sharks did well.

The pick Kipper got for the Sharks likely would've also been part of a Nabby deal so either way, the Sharks get Vlasic.

Disagree. Nabokov would be a different deal than a third string goalie at risk for waivers. Nabokov was a legit starter. Chances are a Nabby trade involves either a higher pick in the 1st round where they wouldn’t have taken Vlasic or a later round pick as a throw in where Vlasic would’ve been off the board.

But if it was nabby traded for a mid 1st round pick the sharks could of then drafted kopitar, marc staal.
