Ultimately, will Phaneuf have his #3 honoured by the Leafs?

Simple yes / no question. Understand it's somewhat early, and his legacy and future is not set in stone... But this is the 5th season Phaneuf is captain.

Looking back at our previous captains:

Mats Sundin - 1997 - 2008: YES
Doug Gilmour - 1994 - 1997: YES
Wendel Clark - 1991 - 1994: YES
Rob Ramage - 1989 - 1991: NO
Rick Vaive - 1981 - 1985: NO
Darryl Sittler - 1975 - 1981: YES
Dave Keon - 1969 - 1975: NO (Personal Choice)
George Armstrong - 1957 - 1969: YES

So going back to 1967, the last cup win, only 2 out of our last 8 captains have not had their numbers honoured by the Leafs. I'm not including Keon in that list because that's his personal preference to not be honoured at this point. The organization will honour him the first second Dave Keon agrees with it.

So, what do you think. Leaving this YES / NO instead of leaving an option called "TOO EARLY TO DETERMINE"

LOL. no.

unless he wins the cup here or takes the team on at least 3 or 4 deep runs in the playoffs, i honestly don't see it.

that first round exit to boston in a shortened season isn't good enough.

Provided he stays on for at least a couple more years...
I think probably it happens eventually even if only for politics.
To make history look better than it was.

If he ultimately leaves sooner than later though, maybe not.

if he plays out the entire 7 years on his contract then probably will. Does he deserve to? probably not.

But the timing of this thread is really bad. I wonder the results if it showed up after the Boston game.

Phaneuf should have his number 3 retired outright so future generations won't have to bear that disgraced number.

At this point in his career that's a big NO!

Seriously, do you kids sit in class and dream up these questions when you should be paying attention to what your teacher is saying?
