I’m one of the few Myers fans. I would have been ok with 5.5 x 5 years. That’s max though. Vancouver can enjoy I guess.

To add... one rumor printed today was Trouba signing for $7.5MM ... here's hoping Myers gets $7MM per year before Trouba signs with the Rangers , so Trouba's camp will turn around and ask for $9MM or some crazy amount the NYR can't afford..

If a D-man like Myers is worth $7MM, Trouba is worth way more.
So what is an actual star player worth then? 20M? ;)

Now apparently 8 million for 7 years are you f***ing kidding me ???? And the NHL wonder why they have lockouts . Players know some GM's are loopy and can't help themselves . :dunce:

My guess is it'll be closer to $7 million AAV. Benning probably floated the $8 million figure out to his media buddies so that the 7x7 doesn't look as bad...makes it look like he got a "deal".

I doubt Myers has even 5 healthy seasons left in him. He's too tall, and he's had hip trouble for years already. 6x6 is really the upper edge of what anyone should even think about signing him for...

8m per year is more than twice what I'd pay him.
7 years is more than twice what I'd sign him for.

Even if I had the cap space, I don't think I'd want Myers even at 5 million. He's going by name recognition at this point, and if you're going to use a defenseman that puts up replacement level numbers like him, you might as well use a young player with upside making near the league minimum (and spend the savings somewhere else).

GM: So you are big right handed defenceman?

TM: Yes

GM: Here's 6x8m

TM: Thanks

GM: Nice to have you for next 6 seasons! By the way have you played hockey before?

Im so tilted.

That's why I love July 1st for every signing that doesn't involve the Jets.

With all the crazy money allegedly being thrown at Myers, we’re all going to rejoice when we get him for under $6M/year.

Could be a nice trade asset in a couple of years.

_______________________________________________

If we could sign Myers in the $ 5.5 to 6 mil range over 3-4 years, I'd be happy with that. I don't think he'd accept that, as this is his last shot, at some really big money. Look what Hayes got in Philly.

Usually there are truths to rumors, at least some, just like with Stone and Las Vegas. I would think Myers will be able to sign somewhere for a minimum of $ 6mil, to a max of $ 7 mil, and he'll likely get term of about 6-7 years. Probably around $ 6.5 / 6.

This amount of "money and term" is to much for Myers. We could use that money to resign Tanev, and some other players.

If for some reason these are false rumors, and the Jet's could resign Myers in the $ 5.5 mil range over 3-4 years, then I'm all for that, however I think he'll get better offers on the free agent market.

He has the kind of body that's very long, and not to thick, and could get injured quite easily, so it's a huge risk, at a huge cost.

I think what will attract teams is that he has had 3 strong playoff appearances, at times the best Jets defenseman on the ice. You pay to go all the way so if Myers gets $7 million on the market I feel like he earned it. We'll miss some aspects of his game next season. The young kids still have a lot to learn.

I would consider signing Copp to 4 years if he would sign for that long. The top pairing needs Samberg to develop this year into the best college player in the country. And hopefully he leaves on year of college on the table for a career here. Though the defense is thin, by developing Veselainen, we can look at moving Roslovic down the road for a defenseman, if he has a strong start.

Either copp or Lowry need to be traded now while their value is probably at its highest, they both do the same thing. This is where Chevy is failing to trade, a year or two too late.

When your core is peaking, and clearly good enough to win a Cup with the right circumstances lining up, you trade useful players who are playing the best they’ve ever played in their careers to make sure you get full value. Smart.

Jets have players waiting to get on the 3rd and 4th line that are cheaper and will do just as well.

What young centers do we have waiting in the wings? No one we have on the Moose will do just as well. Not even close. If anything holding onto Lowry and signing Copp for a similar amount are the affordable middle class salaries that help you pay your stars.

I wish people understood player talent level and how experience factors into it all.
