I’m one of the few Myers fans. I would have been ok with 5.5 x 5 years. That’s max though. Vancouver can enjoy I guess.
So what is an actual star player worth then? 20M?To add... one rumor printed today was Trouba signing for $7.5MM ... here's hoping Myers gets $7MM per year before Trouba signs with the Rangers , so Trouba's camp will turn around and ask for $9MM or some crazy amount the NYR can't afford..
If a D-man like Myers is worth $7MM, Trouba is worth way more.
My guess is it'll be closer to $7 million AAV. Benning probably floated the $8 million figure out to his media buddies so that the 7x7 doesn't look as bad...makes it look like he got a "deal".Now apparently 8 million for 7 years are you ****ing kidding me ???? And the NHL wonder why they have lockouts . Players know some GM's are loopy and can't help themselves .

Free agency + GM trying to save his job = stupid decisions
That's why I love July 1st for every signing that doesn't involve the Jets.Even if I had the cap space, I don't think I'd want Myers even at 5 million. He's going by name recognition at this point, and if you're going to use a defenseman that puts up replacement level numbers like him, you might as well use a young player with upside making near the league minimum (and spend the savings somewhere else).
_______________________________________________With all the crazy money allegedly being thrown at Myers, we’re all going to rejoice when we get him for under $6M/year.
Could be a nice trade asset in a couple of years.

Either copp or Lowry need to be traded now while their value is probably at its highest, they both do the same thing. This is where Chevy is failing to trade, a year or two too late.I would consider signing Copp to 4 years if he would sign for that long. The top pairing needs Samberg to develop this year into the best college player in the country. And hopefully he leaves on year of college on the table for a career here. Though the defense is thin, by developing Veselainen, we can look at moving Roslovic down the road for a defenseman, if he has a strong start.

Either copp or Lowry need to be traded now while their value is probably at its highest, they both do the same thing. This is where Chevy is failing to trade, a year or two too late.
Jets have players waiting to get on the 3rd and 4th line that are cheaper and will do just as well. When your core is peaking, and clearly good enough to win a Cup with the right circumstances lining up, you trade useful players who are playing the best they’ve ever played in their careers to make sure you get full value. Smart.
What young centers do we have waiting in the wings? No one we have on the Moose will do just as well. Not even close. If anything holding onto Lowry and signing Copp for a similar amount are the affordable middle class salaries that help you pay your stars.Jets have players waiting to get on the 3rd and 4th line that are cheaper and will do just as well.
