Friend told me Mollie reported we are close to resigning him? Probably lost somewhere in the roster thread? Just putting it here if it’s true for 90% of us who cant read that thread 24/7. Sorry no link, on vacation posting in a bar! (Ture dedication to this board!!, and wife hates me atm….)

I'm going on record that I would not re-sign him. I think it is a mistake and Ranger fans will start to turn on him. He is a specialist but this team can't afford small specialists that do not win faceoffs. I like the guy but I think it is a mistake. If we are going to have a specialist he needs to bring more imo.

I am going on record that I am recording this post for when it is realized it was never a mistake.

Interesting how Motte was specifically not mentioned in Larry's article today. This gives even more strength to Mollie's original report from a few days ago.

It really depends on his AAV. If it's between $1.5M - 1.75M, it's not too bad. He provides toughness (something you usually advocated for). He's not a heavy weight but can be a Todd Harvey energy checking winger who can kill penalties. That's not the worse.

I’m guessing he wants 2 per

Not saying he doesn’t deserve it, but the Rangers re-signing Motte for anything more than he made last year is a mistake. If he wants to sign a deal like Blais did? Sure. Wouldn’t do anything other than that

yeah, camp keep him around at 1.5m AAV here. He was a great bottom-6 option and his speed was something we were missing desperately.

Then again ... he should get up to 2.5 AAV on the free market ... :dunno:

He doesn’t put up enough points to get as much as some speculate. He is a very good role player with stone hands on breakaways. I want him resigned at 4 years at 1.8 M per

I like the guy but there is toughness and then there is toughness. I like his energy but he is a specialist that is not big nor does he win faceoffs. Basically he is a PK guy. Im not bashing him. Just want a bigger guy who can win faceoffs if possible.

Why don't you take Drury's job then since you could do better?

I think there is room for Motte AND a player like that. I'd argue you are looking for an upgrade over Rooney. Motte is a winger so dinging him for not winning faceoffs is really... odd?

Can't stay healthy. His frame doesn't seem to support his style. Worth a rental, but wouldn't sign him.

He has played center at times but I view him as a specialist. I think if we have a specialist it would be good for him to win faceoffs. If a pk specialist winning a faceoff goes a long way.

Motte brought a lot of consistency to our 4th line and PK. Guys like him are absolutely needed on teams that want to compete for a Cup…as evident by our deep run this year. Not saying he was a primary reason why we went so far, but having him in the lineup over the carousel of AHL tweeners we ran out this year made a big difference. And, simply for that reason, I would love to have him back at a reasonable deal. Thinking a Goodrow-lite contract. Maybe 4 years @ $2M per.

I see, so you want another like a LW/C or RW/C like Goodrow who has multiple uses. I don't imagine many players like that are available. Who are you thinking of. btw, what do you mean by specialist? What is Motte's specialty?
