HISTORY – OCTOBER 25

• 1854 – Charge of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War; 409 die, Radko Gudas suspended 10 games.
• 1859 – US President Chester A. Arthur (30) weds Ellen Herndon (22). Attendees were quoted as saying, “I can’t believe we’re at a wedding that will be listed on the Internet for this date because so few really interesting things otherwise happened.”
• 1984 – Flyers Hall of Famer Tim Kerr tied the team record for goals in a single regular season game with four.

INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT BUFFALO

• Despite its name, surprisingly few buffalo still live in the downtown area.
• “Buffalo wings” were invented by Teressa Bellissimo at the Anchor Bar in 1964. The SPCA still mourns the slaughter of thousands of buffalo for only their wings.
• Sometimes also referred to as the “City of Light,” Buffalo was one of the first American cities to have electric street lamps. The most famous lighting of a Buffalo lamp is accredited to Brett Hull.
• President William McKinley was shot on September 6, 1901 at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo and subsequently died in the city eight days later. The ultimate cause of his death was classified as boredom.
• Famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright erected several buildings in the region, including Graycliff Estate and the Martin House Complex. Not particularly interesting, but my inner 8-year-old just wanted the opportunity to post the word “erect” (giggle).

Excellent GDT, Bernie :handclap::handclap::handclap:

Play like we did last night and we'll turn this bunch over. Looking for Neuvy to play a blinder and lead us to victory, Lube to continue to show us that he belongs, and Ghost to cut them to ribbons from the point. Let's go, boys.

Great job on the GDT, particularly the interesting facts section lol really need a win tonight. Buffalo really isn't a good team. We should be able to put at least 4 on them.

Leier called up.

Raffl must have been put on IR, as we have 24 on the roster right now if not:

x15 Fwds: Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, Couturier, Konecny, Raffl, Weise, Cousins, Read, Bellemare, Gordon, Lyubimov, VandeVelde, Leier.
x7 Dmen: Gudas, Ghost, Provorov, Streit, Manning, MacDonald, Schultz.
x2 Goalies: Mason, Neuvirth.

pray for

Leier - Cousins - Read
Bellemare - Gordon - Lyubimov

This line would get humiliated along the wall lol.

I'd actually like to see Lyubimov on Line 3. Give him some more ice time to see what he has.

Seems like a strange move unless someone else is hurt.

Leier , hope he gets in for VDV, he and Lube add so much speed to bottom 6.

Too bad if Couts is injured after that line has looked so good.

As much as it'll suck if Couts is out tonight, I'm pretty sure you could put just about anybody out there with Voracek and Konecny with the way they're playing in the offensive zone. Couturier has been pretty subpar offensively in the last couple of games, actually. It'd be another story in the defensive zone, though.

That being said, I'd absolutely hate losing him, as we saw what happened against the Caps when he was out.

Voracek is driving play on that line. I'd probably just stick Cousins in there as 2C. He can at least keep up with Jake and TK. We would have to alter the lines usage but at least we are on home ice.

Coots isn't the flashiest on that line, but he has a big effect in every zone, including the offensive zone: forechecking, creating turnovers, cycling, always being in the right position. He's pretty far from replaceable offensively.

Well you conveniently skipped the next sentence where I said that Couturier has been subpar in the offensive zone over the last couple of games. With the way he's played the last 2-3 games, he would be replaceable offensively to get similar output. I clearly stated it would not be good long term, however, given his play the last week or so (which could be related to whatever injury he's nursing) than I wouldn't expect much to change offensively from the past few games.

The heavy bulk of their offense lately has been created off the rush from either TK or Voracek or with Voracek controlling possession along the boards. Shake your head all you want, but he played far better the first week of the season than the second week, and it may be the result of an injury for all we know.
