Still an odd approach, but less so.

It's even worse because it gives legitimacy to such a subjective stat that should be an afterthought at best.

At what point in time did the hockey world start to believe that possession became the new gold standard for success in the NHL?

It's not a useless stat, I won't go that far, but it is compared to other much more meaningful stat lines like PP and PK (among many others).

Well the title for the article is a little over the top but it is an impressive start to the season for the Leafs. A power ranking after 5 games doesn't really mean much though.

gives an indication of which teams may be over or underperforming in a small sample.

It’s only three games into their season, but managing just one goal in two of those games is not positive. Justin Williams (just two assists) and Jeff Skinner (just two goals) need to up their game.

Yeah Jeff, just 2 goals through 3 games? Pick it up.
