The triangle is just a way to support a rush towards the net. Usually 2 attackers and 1 trailing.

At least that's how I thought of it growing up

He’s taking about stickhandling through a defenseman’s “triangle” the little gap of ice and space between their feet and stick. It’s usually referred to attacking the triangle.

Here’s a high level example of it where Tavares does it multiple times on a rush 1v1

Well that's a wild clip, wow... Even just once seems tough to do

Yeah I'll always remember that play by Tavares, one of the 'Best plays that didn't score' deal.

At the NHL level, you don't see a lot of guys burning defensemen by doing it, it still happens but it's not that common. You do see it on zone entries where the defenseman has a good gap and is closing time and space with the stick and a skiled forward puts in under the reach of their stick to buy himself just enough time to gain the line or make a pass. Pat Kane and Auston Matthews come to mind as guys who do that well.

In case anyone's a visual learner or just not following, this training device is called the "attack triangle".

In the embedded video, McTavish's last move before he shoots is to slip the puck through that open triangle between the stick and skates.
