Well my friends, I sincerely hope he’s learned from his experience with my Canucks. Perhaps he’s one of those people who is more effective at being an Assistant Coach than running the show.
If he had the good rapport with Quinn Hughes in Vancouver that some have reported, working with Luke and Jack here may be the key to this hire. Luke’s development can be the future of this team and largely determine whether we are really going to be a contender for a cup.

this seems like a fitz buddy buddy hire, which i’m not a fan of. i’ve never heard anyone (especially vancouver fans) say a nice word about the guy. having said that, it’s not like he’s going to destroy the team. who knows, it’s possible that he works out here.

Maybe he's a mole for the Devils/Hughes brothers, who purposely sabotaged Vancouver to make Quinn not like it there and want to come to New Jersey when he's a UFA, and he's actually a good coach?

I mean I’ve heard good things from media and people that have met him about him as person. Seems to be a good guy. So there’s that at least. And he’s a professional poker player or something on the side. If that counts for anything

At the end of the day, assistant or associate coaches don’t dictate a ton of what’s going on out on the ice without the head coach’s approval so I’m not going to get too worked up on the hire.
As a coach in general, you hope he learns from the mistakes in Vancouver and betters himself for it. I also think that organization has been a dumpster fire in many ways that few coaches can likely overcome.

yeah lol i don’t know the first thing about his personality, i’m sure he’s a good guy.
It suggests he's good at math if he's a good poker player and that he can follow multiple lines of thinking. It's a good skill for analytics. If he's a good guy and had a rapport with Quinn you have to think there is some reason to project some success as an assistant. We won't know much anyway. Did anyone ever really quantify what Brunette did here in his year as Associate Head Coach? I watched virtually every game and couldn't tell you.
I don't think this moves the needle one way or the other and I trust Fitz implicitly at this point.

Coaches come and go. Everhtime they go to a new organization its a new opportunity and new a challenge. Ruff will still be the head coach so I don't think Green will be in over his head. I forgot he didn't coach all of last season because of Bruce taking over during the 2021-22 season. Green will have a better lineup to work with than what he had with the Canucks. He's walking into an organization that realistically can compete for a cup very soon. There will be pressure but it's not like a Canadian market where these guys are walking on eggshells. He won't have as much responsibility as he did with Vancouver but he still needs to help this team improve.
Green was very highly regarded in Vancouver before he got promoted to HC. It was a given he was the coach of the future. But he got a raw deal with a roster that got worse every year and he was the sacrificial lamb for one of the league’s worst GMs in recent memory.
Go look at some of those Vancouver rosters. There’s obviously some great players, but there’s a LOT of dead weight. He kept them more respectable than they probably should have been. I think he’ll be a good fit here, but really i’m just glad to bring a fresh set of eyes to whatever Ruff’s been doing.
