Hunt and goaltender Eric Hartzell were the only invites who survived the first round of cuts in Stockton :
That did not surprise me in the least. Hartzell played well in the first preseason game and Simpson well in the second. But until Gillies is cleared from concussion protocol they will keep both around. And Hunt did everything you could ask of him I think he will be a very effective pest/middleweight in the AHL and it would also be fantastic for the fans as he was probably the most popular player in Thunder history.

Is there an AHL limit on the number of players on a roster? Do the Sens have to cut two more, for example?

Roster Limit

There is no roster limit in the AHL. While the NHL is limited to a 23-man active roster (plus any players placed on injured reserve), there is nothing that prohibits an AHL team from carrying 35 players (except the financial ability to pay all of them). There is no such thing as injured reserve in the AHL, so if a team has a player with a season ending injury, he will simply sit idle on your roster for the remainder of the season.

That being said, there IS a limit that a team can only dress 18 skaters and two goalies in each game, so it doesn’t make practical sense to carry much more than 23 healthy bodies on a roster.

ECHL rosters must be set at 21 players by 3 pm, October 14th and then reduced to 20 players by 3 pm, November 15th.

There is no berth on the IceCaps for the 28-year-old Nicolas Blanchard. He was released from his tryout Wednesday morning in a move he kind of knew was coming since the day before when the parent Montreal Canadiens picked up Paul Byron on waivers, bumping centre-winger Jacob De la Rose to St. John’s.

De la Rose gives the IceCaps 17 forwards signed to either NHL or AHL deals, plus young Marcus Eisenchmid, the lone remaining tryout player.

IceCaps cut all their invites except Marcus Eisenchmid.

- The Chicago Wolves cut Brett Ponich.
