So, are any of the Dregers and McKenzies of the world talking about how extensively the Rangers and Ducks have been scouting each other?

I take that as a good thing. The only time I remember those guys breaking anything NYR related was Gomez to Montreal and I remember these boards had that done before them as well

These guys never seem to have the inside track on the Rangers' dealings. Rangers are so tight-lipped. Ducks tend to be the same way.

Was not aware of that re: the Ducks, but obviously the Rangers have always been notorious for it, and appear to be getting even more tightlipped under Gorton. I think they broke every one of their own FA signings as well as the Zibanejad deal. (Which is kind of amazing.)

Still, you'd think they'd be all over which FOs are attending which games, especially when they show up in force. That'd be a no-brainer if I was in their shoes.

Could just be there's lots of scouting going on in general right now and it's not actually that unusual...

Pretty sure Dreger broke the Rick Nash trade but yeah, it's far and few between.

Ah that's right, forgot about that one. Did he break the news that he requested a trade to NYR or are you talking about the actual trade itself?

If a trade happens, the Rangers will be the one to break the story. The entire hockey community was obsessed with the Vesey-Sweepstakes, and Gorton kept the lid on that air tight.

Not really a big fan of Cam Fowler but was listening to NHL radio this afternoon and they were interviewing one of the Ducks beat writers who said that Fowler was by far their best defenseman so far this year and he has been playing really well.

Outta my head:
SIGNINGS
Signing both Gomez and Redden was not expected
Richards was hugely speculated by a lot of media going to NYR beforehand. So was, unfortunately, Redden.
Vesey and Hayes had some minor media traction but the Rangers were never seen as favourites (except by Ranger Boy)
Brooks had something about signing Grabner beforehand this year

TRADES
Gomez deal was outta the blue
Dregger broke Nash but Brooks was pimping it for a while
Boomer broke the MSL deal
Everybody knew about Eric Staal
Zinbad/Brass was totally outta the blue
Yandle was also quite sudden, although there was a bit the last few days before the trade
Eklund well... he broke my heart. Every day... Therefore my bypass ;)

I think one of them had the Yandle deal before it was official but they thought it was Dan Girardi going to Arizona not John Moore.

Sometimes outside people only get "info" from agents or teams leaking disinformation that they want the public to see for various reasons. Agents might leak bogus contract offers to push a price. Teams might leak a bogus trade to try to draw other offers.

Well to be fair Gordon and the Rangers didn't know he was going to pick the Rangers until that day..so there was nothing to come out.

Normally I'd agree, but when the higher ups in the FO start attneding games (AGM, Head of pro scouting, etc) and allegedly, the Ducks GM, I'd say that this is anything but usual.

Just makes me question that if the Ducks weren't playing local teams like the Isles, Devils, and Flyers, would Drury, Clark, etc be at these games. Same with Murray attending the Rangers games while the Ducks are in town. Could be just as simple as laying down the foundation for a potential trade down the road than anything being imminent.

Gotta hat tip Ranger Boy on this one too. Not the actual trade itself, but the idea of Brassard being traded. Affordable contract, sell high etc. That topic was discussed quite a bit last season and early into the offseason. Some posters hated it from what I remember.

True but I think the speculation with regards to imminence is largely because of the Ducks' dire contract situation with Lindholm. Not only has the season begun but they're 0-3-1 and arguably their most important player doesn't have a contract. Not to mention Gorton going after Shattenkirk just about a week ago.

It's because they're trying to fit in Lindholm who is better than Vatanen and Fowler, who I'd gladly take either

If the Ducks scouts are at the game tonight, something might be up. The last opponent was SJ so that just might be the Ducks checking out a division opponent.

Rangers-Ducks Notable Trades in somewhat recent history:

Rucchin for a pick and minor leaguer
Sykora for Kondratiev and a pick
Unofficial three way...Niemmanen to SJS and the pick to Anaheim for Ozolinsh
Bickell for Williams
Zaborsky for McCue
Emminger for Voros
Etem for Hagelin

Not to mention Rangers claimed Christensen off waiver from Ducks. So the two team have dealt with each other fairly frequently the last decade +.

I understand the urgency from the Ducks end, just saying basing anything off the teams scouting each other could be premature. Ducks are in town, so both teams doing their due diligence but I'm sure Ducks have a lot of moving parts if they can sign Lindholm and it may not include the Rangers participating.

Or a trade could be announced an hour from now. It's all speculating at this point. Ducks need to clear up cap space. Rangers seem to be active(based on the Shattenkirk offer), Ducks in town so both teams heavily scouting the other on off days. Teams have made trades before, Hagelin for example. Ducks have defense to spare. Connecting the dots, seems to be an ideal match. We'll see. Just not as sold as if they were scouting each other and it wasn't so convenient for both parties.

if they told the truth they couldn't move him.

i kid, i kid....

he has played pretty well and yes he's in play so makes sense that the word out there would need to be pretty positive.

on a side note, rick nash seems to be dressing better this year so far, his suits fit better too.

plus, he can cook.

so theres that
