We should go for Taylor Hall. I would offer Tatar + Suzuki + 2nd for him.

I'm OK with Tatar and the pick but Hall is a pending UFA, do we really need to add Suzuki to it? I don't know, I'd wait a little before including Suzuki in any trade, let's see how quickly Suzuki adapts to the NHL and whether we don't have on our hands, someone to build with instead of someone to package.

I'm just afraid they wouldn't trade Hall for anything less, but yeah, maybe Hall would want to come to Montreal as a UFA at the end of the season. I don't get why he'd want to go back to Edmonton.

I believe he stated a preference for an original 6 team but am not certain. If we’d be giving that package, then it would need to be like Pacioretty was for Vegas — we’d need to have an extension secured.

Hall would fit well in MTl, he wants to play in a Big market and he LOVES to drive plays and be an annoying presence, right fit with Domi IMO.

For an extension on Hall I would be ready to trade Poehling + OR suzuki +

I'd go after Jon Merrill. I'm pretty sure he's a better Dman than Kulak, Chiarot and Reilly. He's an impending UFA, we may be able to get him for a reasonable rental price and extend him for a couple seasons.

In the soon to be UFA as well: Brenden Dillon.

Or just let him become a UFA and take your chances.

What would you guys be prepared to give to get the #1 OA pick next year?

I'm serious.

Think about it. This team is flawed. There are promising young pieces but just ok. They don't really excite me. I say Start the rebuild next year with the draft in Montreal and picking Alexis Lafrenière.

Everything ? f***ing Alexis Laffreniere, the first superstar this team would have since Roy, the first forward superstar since Lafleur. This team needs him.

Sell Petry ASAP
Sell Tatar ASAP if the price is right
Sell Byron for whatever

Try to pick up another lottery pick

Worst case this team picks Lundell or Byfield and best case this team picks Laffy.

I doubt there's anything we could offer the team that wins the #1 OA pick. They don't need our vets because they sucked and need to rebuild. None of our youth or prospects add up to a potential franchise player like Lafreniere.

We'd have better odds trading for a 1st round pick with teams that could finish low, like Dallas, Detroit or LA. New Jersey's looking pretty bad -- they're an option.

What if we got creative and offered something like our first round pick for X number of future years?

I doubt any team that won the draft lottery would give up 1st overall and I doubt that any team that could potentially have a lottery pick would give up an unprotected 1st rounder. This is why Bergevin should have been looking to add a lottery protected pick from a crappy team last draft in the hopes that the team would defer to this season. Like the Colorado/Ottawa deal for Duchene.

I really want one of the big wingers from Bridgeport. NYI needs help right now and the Habs could do really, really well with Koivula (Whos a C right now, but can play all positions.)

Maybe they'd want something around Byron or Tatar.

I offered
Tatar for 1st+Koivula or Bellows
and
Byron for 2nd+Koivula or Bellows

on the trade board. How good this team would look with a 6'4 dude that can skate like Otto ? Obviously he probably still needs a few games with Bouchard, wouldn't do him any harm... He could also potentialy replace Thompson if the team was willing to part ways with their 2C :sarcasm:

This is what pisses me off about bozovin. He should have been planning to get #1 OA next year for the last 3 years at least. I actually thought this was his "plan".

according to NHLTradeRumors.me, the Canadiens' and Carolina Hurricanes have contacted the Dallas Stars regarding star forward Jamie Benn.
After making a playoff push last year, the Dallas Stars season is a complete disaster with a 2-7-1 start and chatter already building they could fire their coach.
According to the site the Stars would want multiple draft picks, an NHL top-6 forward, and a blue chip prospect, a price Bergevin has made clear he likely wouldn't pay previously.
Benn who has played with Carey Price and Shea Weber on Team Canada, carries a full no movement clause and is signed through the 2024-25 season at a $9.5million cap hit per season.
