The Habs have 5.1 million in cap space to sign Galchenyuk, Tinordi, Pateryn, Flynn. They now have 2 goalies, 6 dmen, and 11 forwards.

If they want Kessel they will need to clear the full 8 million in cap space.

No way. His $8mil cap is a problem and currently he's not even putting up PPG and is expected to decline even more. It's not like he had terrible linemates either (JVR and Bozak). This is all in addition to what we'd have to give up for him.

I'd rather sign Williams or Ward at a much cheaper contract. St. Louis wouldn't be bad either but he wants to stay in NY.

4 million by trading Emelin for prospects. 3 million in salary dump (DD would be perfect) going the other way for Kessel.

Not hard to do.

Don't worry we have all the time in the world, let's go out and sign a third liner like Williams, Ward or St. Louis. That will surely get the job done and put us over the top, Stanley cup here we come!

Not true, Pateryn is already signed.

It's the bergevin specialty. Fourth liners. Then he will claim he tried but the price was to high. I think he inherited that speech from Gautier

He has been noted by multiple insiders that he is the most active GM out there so yeah he actually does try.

Wow that's bad.

Good thing I'm not Bergevin.....cause I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Fucale - IMO, is nothing more than a back-up...if that
JDLR - is redundant with Eller
Sherbak - is a prospect.....nothing guaranteed, and even if he's gonna be good...it'll take a few years...right past the window of this team.
1st - just another prospect....if it was 1-15 I'd think about it
2nd - Meh
The rest of the bunch need to go and TO will need to make to Cap Floor. These contracts expire in 1-2 years (except Emelin) and would change the culture in TO instantly . Like Em-keep em....don't-ditch Em when contracts expire.

I hate Kessel and Phaneuf, but I'm not blind to the fact that they are serviceable players who could help us win the Stanley Cup.

Food for thought, and another glass of wine.

If the only roster players you could use are DD, Emelin and Gilbert, and you can move any prospects except Scherbak and McCarron, and you can use any picks in 2015 or 2016 ( within some reason, like offering all our picks as part of the deal is carried away ), is there a deal that you think Arizona would take to land us Boedker ?

What makes Boedker the holy grail?

Ya he tires hard for fourth liners. Never top 6 long term. His signings and trades for a long term solution to the top 6 have been bad ie: pap and briere. He's conservative. He will never improve our top 6 via trade or ufa especially this year when th UfA market is thin. Actually he will probably go for St.louis. Sounds like a bergevin move

A 4 million salary dump without anything coming back isn't hard to do? Examples?
Emelin has value. We can deal him for a prospect or pick. DD can be included in a trade for somebody like Kessel. Two firsts, a prospect and a salary dump (DD) for Phil the thrill.
Short term, sure easy enough. The problem is Kessel will be around for 6 years. :scared:
He's 27 years old... it's not like he's over the hill. He's still easily a top 20 scorer in this league and could very well be a top five scorer. I'm not saying there's no risk and I'm not saying your concerns aren't unfounded but he's still in his prime and will be for most of those six years.

Galchenyuk would need to go the other way for sure. Also not seeing us being trade partners.
