There were three total 1st round picks moved on deadline day ... all for players with term left on their deals or as part of the immediate trade and extend on the Island. The price for expiring FAs with under 30 points this season was a 4th in most cases. The 2nd round picks in this year's draft were all from clear buyers to teams in traditional, sell off position because they aren't making the playoffs no matter what deals ... Caps/Sharks, Blues/Habs, etc. Those are the actual market prices. This wasn't rental Witt for a 1st type of deadline pricing year.

Looking at those real prices paid, best case we get something in the neighborhood of a 3rd for Smith or Granlund .. about a 50% shot of that player seeing NHL ice within five years of draft day, around 33% for a 4th liner.

Then there is the issue that the team is in playoff contention and winning about 60% of possible points under Hynes, an issue compounded by the list of players you've advocated dealing for months happen to be among the top scorers since the coaching change ... Granlund top goal scorer and t-1 in points under Hynes, Smith 2nd leading goal scorer, Turris and Bonino t-4th in goals and 4th and 5th in points respectively. Nobody in pro sports is going to gut a team in contention for the post season in exchange for draft picks that have a less than 50% chance of becoming even occasional players in five years time. That's why the teams that were true sellers were the ones at the very bottom of the standings. The Sens shipping off a player for a 4th doesn't hurt their non-existent playoff hopes and might improve their lottery odds which is a very different position than where the Preds sit.

I'm really not interested in arguing any further man. Only time will tell who was correct.
