This is usually a three-week commitment that requires you to check the thread almost daily. Do not sign up if you cannot commit to this. Two auto's and you will be relieved of your duties as GM.

We will use the authentic draft order as of the conclusion of the Conference Semi-finals.

PHASE ONE: 2022 NHL ENTRY DRAFT
We will have a 7-round 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

Picks: The draft clock will run from 8 a.m. to Midnight ET. Each pick will be 4-hours long. Once time is up on a pick, anyone can auto the pick. We auto 3 North Americans, then 1 European, from NHL Central Scouting's Final Rankings list. Goaltenders are NOT auto'd. Before any more picks are made, the GM can change the auto pick and not be charged with an auto. However, all auto picks are final once the next pick is made. No exceptions.

NOTE: All teams must have a minimum of FOUR and a maximum of TWELVE picks in any draft. The ONLY exception to this rule is if a real-life team currently holds fewer than four or more than twelve.

PHASE TWO: FREE AGENT FRENZY
You may NOT sign any pending UFA's (this includes Group 6 UFA's). Following the draft, there will be a UFA signing period. All UFA's are assumed to want to test free agency (this does not mean they won't re-sign with their old team). I will act as Universal Player Agent and weigh the role and salary offered from each team.

The Salary Cap will have a max of $82.5M and a floor of $61.2M.

NOTE:
No trade can involve more than FIVE pieces on a side, or EIGHT pieces total. Also, if any player gets traded who absolutely wouldn't be (i.e. McDavid), the deal also gets vetoed automatically. Either GM can post the trade on the thread, but I need the other to confirm it. If the trade is borderline veto-worthy, PLEASE seek my approval first.

Traded picks are limited to 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Rosters:
Please post your initial roster, and post an updated version when a trade is made. Always include Cap status. Rosters listed without scratches (since that would never happen) are not allowed.

After you pick, please PM the next GM to notify them! And POST THIS WITH YOUR PICK!!! If you cannot PM for whatever reason (i.e. on a phone), ASK SOMEONE TO PM in your post.

Please, do not announce trades until all teams have a GM.

ARIZONA COYOTES SOLD TO TILMAN FERTITTA, WILL MOVE TO HOUSTON

June 11, 2022

GLENDALE, AZ – Following nearly fifteen years of financial struggles, ownership changes, and arena uncertainty, the Arizona Coyotes have played their final game in the desert.

The National Hockey League announced in a press release on Saturday that the franchise will be sold to businessman Tilman Fertitta, owner of the National Basketball Association’s Houston Rockets. The deal is reportedly worth $550 million, which includes a $150 million relocation fee that will be paid to the NHL.

The team will play at the Toyota Center in downtown Houston beginning in October. The team’s name, logo, and uniforms will be announced at a later date.

The sale also includes the Coyotes’ minor league affiliate, the American Hockey League’s Tucson Roadrunners, who will be relocating to San Antonio. The AHL previously had a team in San Antonio, the Rampage, from 2002 to 2020.

Much of the Coyotes existence was marred with financial problems. In 2009, the team filed for bankruptcy. Ownership of the franchise shifted to the NHL for the next four years, during which speculation mounted that the League was looking for someone to buy and relocate the team. Finally, in 2013, the franchise was purchased by IceArizona, who agreed to a 15-year deal with the City of Glendale to keep the team in Arizona.

Following continued financial problems, a majority stake of the team was sold to Andrew Barroway in 2014. Glendale then terminated the 15-year agreement, after which the team operated on multiple, short-term leases. In 2017, Barroway purchased the remaining stake in the franchise, but turned around and sold a majority share to Alex Meruelo just two years later.

In August of last year, the City of Glendale announced that it would be opting out of the Coyotes lease of Gila River Arena and the franchise would need to vacate the facility by June 30, 2022. Despite this, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman repeatedly assured fans that the team was in no danger of relocation. The franchise was reportedly in talks with the nearby City of Tempe to build a new arena, however, that facility would not have been ready until 2026 or 2027. In the interim, the franchise had reached a tentative agreement with Arizona State University to share their new 4,500-seat facility, but the arena deal with Tempe fell through in June.

The last time an NHL franchise relocated was in 2011, when the Atlanta Thrashers were purchased and moved to Manitoba to become the Winnipeg Jets. Since then, the NHL has added two expansion teams – the Vegas Golden Knights in 2017 and the Seattle Kraken in 2021.

While this will be the first NHL franchise to call Houston home, the city has a rich hockey history. The Houston Aeros played in the World Hockey Association – then, a competitor of the NHL – from 1972 to 1978. Later, in 1994, hockey returned to Houston with a franchise in the American Hockey League, who played there until relocating to Iowa in 2013.

Fertitta had expressed interest in bringing an NHL franchise to Houston shortly after purchasing the Rockets in 2017. A season ticket drive is expected to be announced in the coming days.

I'd prefer to have one team per GM, but we all know this can go stale fast before we get that number. Let's hold off a bit before we get there.
