Lightyear wasn't really a Toy Story movie, so I wouldn't read from its failure that there's fatigue for the franchise. Audiences simply rejected the idea of a spin off without any of the characters or voices that they love. I'm not really surprised that Disney wants to get the franchise back on track by going back to what audiences will pay for.3 was the perfect ending and I treated 4 more of an epilogue than a continuation. I just don't see where else they can go with it even. Its a bit of a surprise as well considering that Lightyear didn't perform well at all.
Guess what all three planned movies have in common.
The previous one in each series made over $1 billion.
Add to that that Disney has lost money on most of their animated films since and had an especially disastrous 2022 and this news isn't surprising.
