Guess what all three planned movies have in common.

The previous one in each series made over $1 billion.

Add to that that Disney has lost money on most of their animated films since and had an especially disastrous 2022 and this news isn't surprising.

Should've stopped at 3, but 4 is at least watchable (though my least favorite of the bunch). I just can't imagine what 5 will do that the others haven't. Seems like a good way to really mess with a good franchise.

3 was the perfect ending and I treated 4 more of an epilogue than a continuation. I just don't see where else they can go with it even. Its a bit of a surprise as well considering that Lightyear didn't perform well at all.

Lightyear wasn't really a Toy Story movie, so I wouldn't read from its failure that there's fatigue for the franchise. Audiences simply rejected the idea of a spin off without any of the characters or voices that they love. I'm not really surprised that Disney wants to get the franchise back on track by going back to what audiences will pay for.

No idea where they take Toy Story 5

But I’ll pay to watch all of these anyway

Why bother risking a spinoff (Lightyear) or new IP ( Strangeworld) when you can just print money with the others?

I saw both Lightyear and Strangeworld with my daughter last year and we enjoyed them both, but I can see why they would do what they are doing

Toy Story 4 was pretty awful. I'll watch 5 eventually just because I love the franchise but it'll be on Disney+ when it's free.

Surprised anyone wouldn't like 4. It's the 2nd best for me, I have it as 3 > 4 > 2 > 1. Very excited to see where they go with 5
