Unless Seattle is taking Hyman or Kerfoot in the Expansion Draft and Toronto protects McCann, not sure what the point of this trade is.

With so minimal return it doesn't necessarily even have to change Toronto's protection plans. Could still go 4-4 and if Seattle takes McCann they still have Kerfoot and vice versa.

Well, the expansion draft is certainly resulting in some interesting deals.

Woof. Bad asset management by Hextall.

McCann never should've been exposed in the first place. Keep Blueger, sure, especially on that extension. But McCann was on a pace 25G and 35A past last year. It's a mistake to leave him out of the 7 slots.

Great deal for the Leafs. If he continues on the same track he is going to be an excellent supporting offensive player, even if he gets a significant raise next summer.

Again, silly, stupid, bad move IMO by the Pens from an expansion draft perspective.

I honestly think their are some attitude issues with McCann. That's the reason the left Vancouver wonder if the leadership group in Pittsburgh might have expressed the same concerns. Obviously speculation but it's pretty hard to piss of the Sedins and he managed to do that.

McCann had unsustainable underlying stats and is due for a big regression. This is still a good trade for TOR tho

Yes but he is still a great two way player. Even if he wasn't going to score at the same pace.

Good replacement option if they lose Kerfoot.

Hallander isn't a bad prospect, he had a good draft+1 in the SHL points-wise and then seems to have stagnated. Maybe someone who knows more about him can explain. He was probably worth a 3rd or 4th rounder.

The benefit to Hallander compared to a draft pick is that Hallander is closer to contributing than a draftee.

Soooo….
McCann and first for Kappy then. I’ll take that. Kinda strange as Hallinder stayed in Europe he never really played a single game in our organization.
