Year 3 looks ugly (sort of). 17.25 mill is paid out in the first two years. If he slips in year 3, hello Robidas Island. Nobody is worried.

He scored 27 goals last year. He'll likely line up beside Matthews.

Leafs had Michalek, Greening and Laich on the Marlies last year eating up around 10 million in cap space. We haven't lost anything from last year and we add Hainsey and Marleau for that money that was simply nothing last year. Could be worse.

Well, we only got shut out 2 times last year, that’s the best in the league. Pittsburgh was shut out 4 times. So “unstoppable†might be the correct term. Cheers

BTW I’m only talking about offence, you seem to think we’re talking about wins, which we’re not and have never been.

Also hortons contract expires at the same time as marleaus. If you try to LTIR you still will have cap problems as 11.5 million will still be way over 10% of the cap

You do not understand how cap hit works right? Year 1 his cap hit is 6.25 even though he will be making 8.7 million in actual money. His cap hit in year 2 is wait for it 6.25. Can you guess what his magical cap hit will be in year 3 considering it hasn't changed from year 1 and 2? I will give you a hint it starrs with 6

For some teams that difference in the cap hit vs his actual pay will be very valuable.

A team like Arizona who wants to hit the cap floor yet field a whole team of rookies a veteran player who is getting paid 1/4 of his cap hit is just amazing.

This is basically a 2 year deal with a song and dance for a 3rd year somewhere else in a victory lap. This is Toronto flexing their wallet.

After Marleau gets his signing bonus July 1st 2019, leading up to his third year, he'll only be making $1.25 million. That's when the Leafs trade him to a team looking to hit the cap floor, and he retires. He won't play that third year. It's obvious.

It's not obvious when there is blind hatred involved. You can see this, the majority cannot.

But, that means they were stopped twice...

The Leafs are gonna love him....

until he goes into passenger mode in the playoffs with subpar efforts which he is prone to do.

He's been better recently but he's never gonna be a world beater.

He doesn't need to drive the boat here.

If your offense was "unstoppable" then you would win games. Leafs don't win as many games as possible for an "unstoppable" offense. Stop trying to just legitimize a hyperbolic statement.

With that stupid contract, Now Radulov will ask for the moon.

No he will ask for the moon because the Habs have no offense and he can hold a gun to their head till they cave. Has nothing to do with Marleau, a ~20 year vet in the NHL.

So again if he hasn't won a Cup and the Leafs are a contender he's just going to give up on his final shot to "save" the Leafs?

Maybe not, but if we need to throw an extra mil to get a guy of his ilk, you do it. People freaking out over a three year term here is very laughable.

This contract can affect future contracts UFA players ask from Toronto making this worse for the Toronto heck it can even effect what your young players who aren't UFA to be want on future contracts. 3 years is 1 too many a NMC for all 3 years isn't good and the cap hit is too high. Nothing about that can be called anything other then bad.
