I feel like most of the posts on this site involve arguing over something whereby each poster has a different definition of a key point.

Producing like a 60 points winger sarcasm I.e. pace vs season total stats
1st line center as someone who plays on the 1st line as a center(or is top 31 in production for that position) vs a 'True' 1st line center

Etc etc.

Exactly right!


There will be someone who will argue that Malkin isn't a first line center because Crosby plays more minutes or in this case that Bozak is a 3rd line center when his production is on the boarderline of a 1st line center.

It's like an arbitration hearing with one side explaining how the player is garbage and the other side explaining how he is the second coming of Mario Lemieux.
The truth almost always is somewhere in the middle but passionate fans wanting the best for their team are too "invested" in their team to try and see the situation objectively.

It's interesting how close Bozak and Stepan are in terms of perceived value when you look at their stats, ages and contracts.

Stepan got a top 10 pick, and some other nice assets while Bozak is being turned down by Ranger fans and others.

They aren't that different as players.

They're close in terms of stats, sure. But ages and contracts? Stepan is 27, Bozak is 31. Stepan has four years left on his deal and Bozak is UFA-to-be.

To add: Stepan plays against top lines, does it really well, plays in all situations, has held a leadership position for years, and has a lot of playoff experience.

Their value isn't remotely close.

I think that it's a fair statement to say Stepan is worth a lot more than Bozak. The problem with evaluating Bozak's value is there is always too much Leaf bias and anti Leaf bias.

Bozak should be valued as a 2nd line offensive center.

ones a 1b center the other a 2nd line center the value isnt too off, 10/10 people would take stepan over bozie, but again value isnt so crazy from one to the other.
Leafs are looking for a 1st or 2nd+ prospect or 2 2nds for bozie if we move him. a fair amount less then what stepan went for.
