??? He’s 28 years old and had a great week.
Outside of that week He has 3 goals in 45ish games this year and was a healthy scratch in Feb.

Having him as our 3rd line LW is pretty dicey
That lineup has virtually no bottom 6 scoring

Reeves Kampf holmberg/dewar/mcmann
Is not a recipe for success

Once given more opportunity, he has been downright dominate when he is on the ice. He should be on the top line with Matthews in Marner. Knies drop to the 3rd line.

This is an issue in Toronto as a market, a guy gets a month of good will from fans and media and MLSE makes an emotional signing.

For a team that is cap pressed they have to stop handing bottom six forwards money. At some point you have to stop burning cap room. Leafs will pay the Bobby McMann tax next year when they have to give up a 2027 3rd for a '3 way deal' to get that 500k back in cap space on a deal when they trade for a 7th defenseman.

Good for Bobby, everyone loves him today, we'll see in month or two if he's forgotten and resented like every Bobby McMann in Toronto.

This franchise never learns.
you really worried about a contract that likely will be able to bury without any cap penalty. right now u can demote 1.15m without penalty and if the caps rising 4m how much will that 1.15m rise? if he becomes so bad they might have to pay 200k or less towards the cap. not sure why they have to learn for something like this its a good signing.

??? Dominant? He looks like a replaceable 4th liner.

He has 3 goals in 45 games outside of a big week. Lots of players have big weeks.

He has 1 goal in his last 9 games. How is that dominant?

Bobby has an infinitely small sample size of success, this is a donkey signing however you want to dress the corspe.

this contract is next to nothing to deal with man, with the cap rising this might even be able to be completely demoted without any cap penalty.

it really comes down to are you just not okay with them using 1/50 contracts on McMann?

I dunno what to tell you, he's done very well

He's a roster player he's not getting sent down so you're just burning your own strawman.

Every penny league min on a one way is an overpay. He's been good for a month.

I guess the next cope is that his contract is waivers proof because it sucks.

Obviously you’ve never watched him closely. The guy can have 1 goal in 45 games and still be an effective 4th liner with the way he plays. Low risk, high reward signing.

he was decent when he first joined and hes been good lately. this is a small beans contract and something extremely easy to deal with. nothing to worry about. maybe Matthews and Nylander shouldnt have been extended if we how to worry about small contracts like this moving forward. what we gnna do fill our team up with bargain bin players like Malgin types? some players are late bloomers if McMann continues to get better this is a great contract..... if not and we waive him no big deal

Why did we need to re-sign him now? Why not just in the offseason.
cost likely goes up the longer we wait

Username checks out on that take.

Decent deal and easy to waive or bury if he doesn't work out.

Good for him to carve out a role and career at 27 years old. He’s made a real impact for them and can be the type of guy they need.

There’s something beautiful about a guy who seizes an opportunity. Doesn’t happen often in Toronto.

Bobby has been a pleasant surprise against all odds.

Happy for him and Toronto.

Hedging against leverage going forward I'd guess; Brass must think he's got a little more in him and if he doesn't, he's where he should be.

I think the timing was perfect. He's looked better than some of the contracts slightly above his, so even if this is McMann's peak, it's an acceptable outlay for two years come what may.

Just a bit of context, the guy has produced points in lower leagues. Stats don't tell everything, especially during the 2020-22 timeframe with COVID screwing curves up, but here's some history on him.

2020-21 ECHL - 17 points in 18 games (with some AHL time)
2021-22 AHL - 35 points in 61 games (with 24 of them goals)
2022-23 AHL - 29 points in 30 games (with some NHL time)

His career curve has been pretty steady, all things considered.
