Start at #2 to save time, maybe #3

Gretzky
Lemieux

Ever heard of Bobby Orr?

Top 4 will be Gretzky, Orr, Lemieux, Crosby

Imagine thinking Crosby is better than Howe.....

if i teleported 1993 Gretzky into 20-21 LA Kings camp, he wouldnt even make the opening night roster.

your point? were not voting who the greatest physical athlete is.

Think of it as who was the greatest hockey player in their time/era.

My point is that he isnt that special.
There was just a lack of talent, work ethic, preparation, etc. in those times.
Teleport my 2020 beer league skills to 1973 and i'm a hall of famer.

I'll tell you what certainly is special. Calling the guy with more assists than anyone else has points "nothing special".

Yeah well color me unimpressed about that accomplishment in that era.
Joe Thornton in his prime is a better passer than Gretzky.

Easy to set guys up for goals when your team mates are shooting on goalies with wooden goal pads.

Ok, you dont get it, youre thinking about this the wrong way... He was still greater than everyone in his era by a far greater margin than Crosby ever was. I mean, you can say that about ANY sport on the planet in regards to today's athletes.

Ruth couldnt hit a modern day major league pitch.
Jordan wouldnt be close to who he was against today's NBA defense.
Jim Brown couldnt stand a chance against today's NFL linemen.
etc
etc

I mean to you, Howie Morenz was a horrible hockey player since he couldnt come close to competing in today's game. Basically your TOP 10 NHL players of all-time comprise of players of the past 15 years.

Again, greatness is relative to THE ERA they played in. Its not very hard to comprehend.

defenses are still better today than they were 20-30 years ago, no matter the sport. They have to stop more skilled players today.
