Since I was arguing in the Brown thread (and derailing it a little), I thought I'd get everyone's opinion on who you guys think the 5 best and 5 worst head coaches are entering the 2019 season. You could use whatever criteria you want to define best and worst.

Mine:

1. Bill Belichick
2. Sean Payton
3. Sean McVay
4. Pete Carroll
5. Doug Pederson

22. Jason Garrett
23. Jay Gruden
24. Matt Patricia
25. Adam Gase
26. Pat Shurmur

*Not counting the 6 coaches that have never been head coaches

First time head coaches are Vic Fangio (DEN), Brian Flores (MIA), Kliff Kingsbury (ARI), Freddie Kitchens (CLE), Matt LaFleur (GB) and Zac Taylor (CIN)

Patricia
Gruden (both of them)
Shurmur
Not really sure who the 5th would be but I'm not remotely sold on any of the new hires and will probably have multiple of them here in a year's time.

Seems strange that Jon Gruden is showing up in this thread's bottom 5.. he has a postseason & regular season (career) winning record, and a Super Bowl championship. His time back in Oakland is still young. I think it's too early to characterize it as a coaching failure.
I agree that his bro is bottom 5. Made little to no progress in Washington. Shows almost no passion or leadership on game day.
My opinion, Belichick's still current #1, and the best coach of this generation.
