Rantanen should be considered for #9.

Considering his elite offensive production during the regular season and playoffs, as well as his defensive play.

He out produces Matthews while being just slightly less good defensively.

Why do playoff break every tiebreaker with an Avs player. Last time I checked the Avs have dried up in the second round… every… single… year.
Rantanen at least shows up in the playoffs. Matthews has yet to do that.

The fact that guys like Point, Rantanen, Vasilevskiy, Marchand, and Stone are all still on the board at #9 tells you how talented this league is right now

You realize these lists like the one in the tweet are garbage right? People need to stop taking war charts and the like at face value.

Rantanen shouldn't be an option here, especially when guys like Marchand and Fox are still on the board. Opposing goalies don't even have an .840 save percentage when he's on the ice. His point totals (like many on the Avs) are clearly due for some regression.

Right thanks for making it obvious you don't watch Leaf games. Last series he actually played good, he just had remarkably terrible puck luck. He's been good more often than not in the playoffs and is usually our best player in them.

Yeah, he might regress to a meager 100 point pace, which he averages over the last 4 seasons, regular season + playoffs combined. That even includes his below ppg down season in 2019-2020. It's obvious that the top Avs players' point pace might regress, but it's not like Rantanen's production this year is a huge anomaly, his production has been elite for years now.

It's actually very close between him and Marchand, both have averaged around 100 point paces for multiple seasons now, and are similar defensively. Both have elite line mates aswell. It's harder to compare him to Fox though for obvious reasons.

I figure people haven't fully realized that Rantanen is actually a ~100 point player, because he hasn't played a full 82 game season ever since becoming elite. And don't even try with the "pace doesn't mean that much, he will regress" mantra here. It doesn't make sense for players who have kept the pace for 4 years.

Well, RIGHT NOW, literally, Jack Eichel is injured and not among the best 1000 hockey players if you'd throw him on the ice sore from his surgery. BUT, give it a month or so and he's #9 safely. At least.
