lmao Hasek played in an era when the league average sv% was routinely around (and often below) .900. He was just as dominant in the playoffs as he was in the regular season. You’re not winning any credibility points with that argument.
You know these stats are available on the internet right? Hasek played 6 years with a league average below .900 (up until 95-96) and 10 with the league average above .900.

Last year the league average was .904.

So the currently active goalies with a higher career sv% (postseason) than hasek are equivalent to him because the sv% league wide is similar?

So do you have Roy outside the top 15 for this then? Because his playoff sv% across the years he and Hasek both played is worse. Your argument is just….so so bad.

Only because you are focusing narrowly on the part about sv%.

Again, that is Hasek’s signature, he made sv% a popular stat in the 90s. Given the relative lack of other accomplishment in this conversation, Hasek needs to win sv% at a blowout level to pass these other guys on a list like this. He has nothing else. Sv% is the only argument to hang the hasek hat on.

My argument for Roy (check up thread) was basically “3 conn smythes in 3 decades on 2 teams.” Nobody else has anything like that.

Ok, so your argument for Roy is “ok, he has worse individual stats but who cares because he played on better teams,” and your argument against Hasek is “I don’t care how ridiculous his stats were (in context) because his teams still managed to lose despite that”? You’ll forgive me if I’m not persuaded.

Hasek lost in the first round more often than not.

Quoting myself from another thread. Here's what the people who watched Patrick Roy in the 1986 playoffs were saying about him:

From the Montreal Gazette (May 6, 1986) - partway through conference finals

From the Windsor Star (May 16, 1986)

NOTE - this article is from a preview of the Stanley Cup finals. It's quite long, but the author indicates that Montreal has "deep and star-studded" defense, and that "Carbonneau alone [is] worth [the] edge" when comparing checking lines.

From the Record-Journal, Meriden, Connecticut (May 16, 1986)

NOTE - I can't copy this text easily, but the article also says that Larry Robinson "would have to be considered a candidate [for the Conn Smythe] this year if not for the play of Roy".

Overall - yes, the Habs were a very good defensive team. But based on what was documented in several different newspapers during the 1986 playoffs, Roy was clearly the team's most valuable player. I couldn't find a single credible so that suggested that anyone else deserved the Conn Smythe. There are several big names (Jean Beliveau, Bob Gainey, Larry Robinson) all speaking to Roy's brilliance - that carries a lot of weight.
