Dan Bertram. 17 yrs old. 5 goals in 5 games.
I'll break this up even more into forwards, dmen and goalies. Not fair to group forwards with dmen in my eyes. In no particular order:
Top 5 goalies:
Curtis McElhinney-Colorado College
Jeff Jakaitis-Lake Superior State
Top 10 dmen:
Matt Jones-North Dakota
Andrew Alberts-Boston College
Andy Greene-Miami Ohio
Mark Stuart-Colorado College
A.J. Thelen-Michigan State
Top 10 forwards:
Brett Sterling-Colorado College
Patrick Eaves-Boston College
Jim Slater-Michigan State
Evan Schwabe-Minnesota Duluth
Colin Murphy-Michigan Tech
Would Robbie Earl be a top 10 forward?
Robbie Earl should be in the TOP 10 Forward Catogary he has been playign great hockey this year from what I hear.
Is Jordan Sigalet worthy of being a top 5 NCAA goalie?
Nice to see Stuart and Alberts on the list for d-men.
I would definitely sneak him into the top 5.
and alberts, i think, is at the bottom of the top 10 for d-men. there are areas of his game that need definite improvement.
Yeah, Alberts doesn't have much of an offensive game and sometimes the speedy forwards can get past him. He is TOUGH though. Very tough and he loves to hit.
Good list, where would Irmen be? Tied with Polutny with points but Pol has more goals...
I am little Gopher biased, so take that for what its worth...
I don't think Harrington is a top 10 D-men (anti-bias there I guess). I don't think he is even a top 3 D-man on his own team. Makes way too many mistakes to be considered elite. Also, I would rather have Danny Irmen than half (well, 2 or 3 for sure) of that top 10 forward list...I don't know if he should be on the list, but he should be considered.
EDIT: Oh, and I don't think Robbie Earl is top 10 yet, but he is on his way. JMO though.
This is a right-now list. Not an NHL projection list.
1. Jimmy Howard, Maine
2. Al Montoya, Michigan
3. Jordan Sigalet, BG
4. Bernd Bruckler, UW
5. Curtis McElhinney, DU
1. AJ Thelen, Michigan State
2. Evan Schwabe, UMD
3. Patrick Eaves, BC
4. Jim Slater, Michigan State
5. Dan Bertram, BC
6. Matt Greene, UND
7. Matt Christie, Miami
8. Ryan Potulny, Minnesota
9. Jeff Tambellini, Michigan
10. TJ Hensick, Michigan
How's Jimmy Howard looking so far this year. He had a monster year last year....did he pick up where he left off?
Started slow and getting better.
He's been struggling a bit this season. He had mono and an ankle injury to deal with in the off-season. Now, he has a knee injury that he suffered in the win over UNH on Sunday. So far, it's unclear whether he'll be able to go this weekend or not.
Good list Kritty, except I'd replace Jakaitis (I really like this kid) with Sigalet or maybe David McKee (CORN), with an honorable mention to Joe Fallon (UVM).
Several other noteworthy players left off the forwards list: Matt Moulson (Cornell), Ryan Shannon (BC) and T. J. Trevelyan (SLU)
Another defenseman who could also be a candidate for the list: Nathan Oystrick (NMU)
Sigalet has to be in the top-five of any list.
.944 save percentage...50 saves against Notre Dame which *dropped* it from .950? 1st Team CCHA goalie in 2003-04.
The guy is a gamer and has been ever since he got there. He gets little respect because of where he was drafted and who he plays for, but he's been consistently good on a mediocre team for three seasons running and part of a fourth.
He's top-three in the NCAA in my book...
It was tough to narrow it down to just 10. I could have easily made it top 20 at each position. Just went with personal favourites in some cases and guys that I felt get overlooked often.
Also, there are alot of guys (Trevelyan, Sigalet, etc) that i've never seen play so I can't really comment on them aside from stats and what I read.
Impressive list, good job
Read my mind
Not only that, but Bowling Green had seven players suspended for the Lake State and Notre Dame series. They split the Lakers, then tied and beat Notre Dame. Not bad for being that shorthanded!
We've been lucky to have such a promising core of first-year men come in this season, Whitemore, Matsumoto, Foster, who have really stepped it up for us since those players were indefinately suspended.
Nice to see Sigalet getting some recognition, he truly is a great goalie and character.
No Matt Greene in the top 10 D-men? I heard he was quite a player. Is he overrated?
In my humble opinion, Sigalet is currently the best goalie in the NCAA and has great pro potential. I fully expect to see this kid as a NHL starter in the next two to three years!
That would cause a problem in Boston since we have Raycroft and Toivonen!
Seriously, this kid is that good! At the very least you'll have some serious trade value.
