Sup dudes, was just talking to my hockey buddies about a trade proposal that would land Jonathan Toews in Boston. We did not think of the financials or anything, so I'm sorry if the cap hits don't make sense and don't add all up.
My thinking here is that the Bruins are in dire need of a Center, specifically one who is good at faceoffs and shows great leadership. Boston unfortunately was unable to get over the hump in game 7 and it may have had something to do with their Center's. Toews has absolutely been the image of the Blackhawks, especially winning those 3 Stanley Cups with his pals Kaner, Seabrooksy, and Duncker.
The offer:
BOS sends:
Charlie McAvoy
Brandon Carlo
2nd round pick in 2022
5th round pick in 2021
David Pastrnak
CHI sends:
Jonathan Toews
Erik Gustafsson
Brent Seabrook
Olli Maata
7th rounder in 2021
The Breakdown:
Boston will be sending troubled young defensemen Charlie McAvoy as part of this deal, as he has yet to find his footing in the NHL, who hasn't really shown much "wow" in this time in the NHL. In return, they would be acquiring an upgrade in Gustafsson, who has quietly been Chicago's tank on the backend and PP specialist (99 career points in 181 games, better than half a point per game). Toews is going to add that 1-2 punch with Bergeron, slotting down Krejci to 3C, and either moving Coyle to wing or as the 4C. Maata is a great depth defensemen who was a key piece on the blueline for the Penguins in their cup run recently. Pastrnak would help fill a need for the Hawks, acquiring a young forward with much promise, with the possibility of chipping in 25-30 goals a season to go along with Debrincat and Kane. I also feel that Carlo-Seabrook is a pretty comparable swap, with BOS getting the experience once again of an elite defensemen and championship prowess.
I felt that Kirby Dach going to BOS would have also added a nice element to this, but i thought BOS would laugh at the asking price from CHI's end, as Dach was just drafted in the top10 in last year's draft.
I know what you're thinking, why would Chicago want to part with all of its core, essentially leaving Kane on an island by himself with fellow cup champion Saad? CHI is clearly on the downhill here and definitely needs to rebuild. BOS needs to think big picture. True Stanley cups are won down the middle (ask the LA Kings, St. Louis Blues, Penguins), what bigger piece than Top100 player of all-time Johnny Toews?
Please let me know your thoughts, i think Toews to BOS is the trade offer that no one's thought about and it really irks me.
