While Edwin Encarnacion's wrist feels better, he's not yet ready to play and may not have enough time to return in 2013 per John Gibbons.

I'm completely cool with them sitting him the rest of the season. No need to rush him back and risk aggravating anything. The main goal should be to bring back everyone that's part of the core healthy for spring training.

JP Arencibia has a .241 on-base percentage (.241!! Holy mother of god... like I can't even understand how it is possible to have it so damn low). .382 slugging percentage. -0.1 WAR.

was noted the other day that since the 1910s, JP's OBP is like 3rd or 4th worst all-time. And most of the guys that are on that list of offensive ineptitude are defensive specialists whose gloves make up for the awful bats.

and the GDT is open.

So am I. We aren't making a run so let some young guys get some playing time. Give Derosa a few more games and bobs your uncle. No need to push anyone this year.

Yup, 3rd worst over that time with over 10,000+ players in that span. What a ridiculously terrible player. They have to dump him this off-season for whatever you can get. There is just no way they can go with him as a starter next season.

I think he might not get qualified in the offseason, who the hell would want to deal anything (even cash) for a player who bats like this.

Huh, that was weird (first time I've tried to make the new thread specifically by copying a bunch of posts from the old, as opposed to copying old posts into a pre-made thread).

Oh well.

and for the curious, the 70% comes from the fact that tonight's lineup features only 3 players (Dickey, Reyes, Lind) that were starters at the beginning of the season (Lawrie was hurt then. Encarnacion, Bautista, Rasmus, Cabrera, Izturis are hurt now. Arencibia doesn't start tonight. Bonifacio been traded.)

The most hilarious part is that his bat is supposed to be his calling card

Just listened to the AA interview on PTS the other day and he wasnt too complimentary about JPA saying things like he has flaws and alot of things he needs to get better at. If the front office is really concerned with team defence like they've been saying the past few days theres just no way you can bring JPA back as a starting catcher.

I think signing Ruiz for 2-3 years makes alot of sense.

Absolutely. I think he's a significant upgrade across the board, and shouldn't be too costly. The fact that he's not completely uncomfortable catching the knuckleball means he wouldn't have to automatically sit every five days.

No doubt that there is no way JPA should be brought back as the starting catcher. But I have been asking myself this the last little while -- do you bring him back as the back-up catcher?

If he would accept the role, I couldn't see why not. He certainly wouldn't cost very much. This winter is the first pass through arbitration, and he's been remarkably unspectacular.
