During the NHL’s hiatus, we at the Last Word on Hockey are going to look back at each date’s historical significance to the game. We’ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here’s our look at this date in hockey history for April 19th, featuring Martin Brodeur.

Today in Hockey History: Devils Martin Brodeur Ties Shutout Mark
Nice this day in history, but 4 days off.

His record tying shutout happened on April 23rd of 2009 in game 5. April 19th of 2009 was game 3, the Zajac OT winner in Raleigh.

And now that I look, it is the 8th anniversary of when Brodeur broke Roy’s playoff shutout record in 2012. But he broke the playoff shutout record that day. Not tied it.
