Best move in nearly a decade, since the Karlsson signing.

Big, big move. Getting it done a year early is huge on multiple fronts.

Chabot, Brannstrom, Wolanin is a solid Left side.
Coming Soon: Bernard Docker, Thomson, Jaros on the Right.
LaJoie as the 7 That's a good DCorps

Just based on what we have in the cupboard now.

Chabot signing is a key milestone.

Incredible deal. I figured a long term deal was going to cost close to 10.

Absolutely phenomenal!

I can't believe it either. I was lying in bed trying to sleep last night and I was thinking maybe we could get him for 6 years at 8 million per. I can't believe they got him for 8 years at 8 million per. Can't believe it.

The boy left money on the table, to that let there be no mistake - and that is a GOOD sign!

UNCONFIRMED: Contract based on initial report. Once the details have been confirmed the contract will be updated
________________________________________________

No reported signing bonuses or trade protection yet. I would guess that's the actual contract because they have specific numbers. The 4M year is the prospective lockout year.

This is an amazing contract. It shows that the young core have bought in. Cap hit percentage wise, it's lower than comparable top pairing D coming off of their ELC. I'm skeptical about no bonuses or trade protection, because that's just ridiculousness.

Something tells me Chabot wanted to be here, because that's what this contract looks like. Still, this is Dorion's best move as GM. He's set this team up with a franchise defender at what will be an amazing cap hit for almost the entirety of the next decade.

If the above contract structure is accurate, it also sets a precedent internally. If our best player isn't getting signing bonuses, it then becomes difficult for other players to justify that position. It doesn't mean Tkachuk won't go hard next year trying to get every dollar he can get, but it certainly will be easier to sign Tkachuk to an 8x8 type deal when there's a culture internally of the young core buying in.

I did not think this was possible for them with the whole bonus money issue. I will eat major crow on this, I really did not think they were going to be able to afford this contracts expected bonus structure. The fact that there isn't one and only 8aav, means he chose to give the team a massive discount imo, which bodes well for buy in from others.

Dorion's best move as a GM hands down by a mile. Good show.

similar % of cap (9.8 vs 10.1 or thereabouts). Karlsson was for a year less and promptly was awarded his first Norris after signing the deal but they are pretty similar [deals]. Worked great with Karlsson, hopefully we'll get similar value from Chabot!

Good news.

Of course, it's the bare minimum we should expect for a professional NHL team, but at this point, I'll take any good news we can get.

A great contract for a great player & potentially the best player on the team with Norris potential. Slowly the pieces are falling into place, I imagine this season should continue to clean house & stock pile picks & prospects.

Next, trade as many of the UFAs as possible before the trade deadline, Pageau, Ennis, Boedker, Hainsey, DeMello, Boro & Anderson. If some team also wants any of Tierny, Duclair, Anisimov, Ryan or any other player/prospect not in their future plans they should move them as well. While they won't have a team of all rookies, they have said that they will have a team mostly of players under 25 yrs of age who can grow together.

I’m surprised we got this done with no sb involved in the extension as that seems the norm these days.

Very happy with this.

Curious to see how this plays out with the rest of the signings. They can’t be making more or much more than chabot you would think.

So....who is going to be the first Debbie Downer and bring up that they don't expect to see Chabot in a Sens uniform once the backloaded part of his deal kicks in? :D

I guess that's me.
